Jammu and Kashmir the newest formed union territory of the country was a state till October 31, 2019, along with Ladakh which was a part of the state. It is the Northernmost territory of India.
The territory is a big area, consisting of namely two divisions called Jammu and Kashmir separately. Jammu is called “The City of Temples" and Ladakh as “The Land of Gompas”. The collective state earlier was known as the Heaven on Earth.
A disputed area from the time of partition and independence, 1947 between the neighbouring countries of Pakistan, China and our own native land. In 2019, the statehood of the state was surpassed to being a union territory, with no separate chief minister, but a Lt. Governor, directly operating under the President of the country from the centre.
Like other areas of the country, this territory is also rich in soils, which thus makes the major land rich in agriculture. Agricultural products contribute to 50% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the region. It provides raw materials to a variety of industries like fruit- canning, edible oil extraction, flour mills, rice-husking factories, bakeshop and alcohol preparation.
To showcase and encourage native craftsmen/weavers, the local administration is taking various steps in the same. Since the area has huge potential to grow and earn and lead the economy of the region, and with added benefits from the tourism sector, the demands and purchasers are growing worldwide. This is often a major step towards fostering the agricultural economy and boosting the sale of authentic exotic handicraft and handloom merchandise and seeking new destinations for niche audiences.
