Some important temples and pilgrimage centres include Siddhi Vinayak, Mumba Devi, Haji Ali, Pataleshwar Temple, Parvati hill, while some others have existed for 1000 years. It also has various attractions from the most powerful dynasty of India, the Maratha dynasty like the Shaniwar Wada, also the cities of Satara, Pune, Kolhapur and others have historical and significant importance.
The economy is the largest in India and has some of the most affluent and developed cities in the world. All big banks, financial institutions, insurance companies, mutual fund enterprises and stock markets especially the BOMBAY STOCK EXCHANGE, have headquarters in the region. The state is also a software hub having various technology and IT parks which makes the state the second-largest outsourcer and exporter of services in the country.
Major events and festivals of the state are worldwide recognized as the Wine festivals of Nashik, Food festival of various cities, city tours, international city festivals, concerts, live and stand up comedy, promotions and film festival, Bollywood City Tour etc. The art and creative aspect is well recognized and appreciated in the area and thus major corporate careers are built, for which everyone from the nation prioritizes to work in the state.
Although developed and industrialized, agriculture is still the main occupation. The state is rich in environmental and irrigation at some places, while also having drought-prone areas too. The range of the humidity and water availability is very broad. But the state is the largest producer of Sugarcane and shares the national yields of the nation in terms of various crops like Jowar, Arhar, Soybean and others. The villages and the rural areas of the state are also developed and they are referred to as models for reference like the Ralegan Siddhi in Ahmednagar district. Some Monsoon crops include millets, Bajra, Wheat, Pulses, vegetables and onions. The state significantly contributes to fruit cultivation like mangoes, bananas, grapes, pomegranate and oranges too.
Agricultural Cooperative Societies are an integral part of the state, which was extensively set up with a vision of rural development, with local initiative.
