Chandigarh has a variety of green resources, and the activities of the city are focused on preserving trees and the natural heritage of the area. Hence, a list of 31 trees has been noted by the Department of forest & wildlife, the government enterprise. Several ways to preserve and work in support of this dream are mentioned. The city has trees that are 100 years old and these are preserved under the category of Heritage status.

The name of Chandigarh is derived from the local deity ‘Chandi’, which has its power and influence over the people. There is a temple called "Chandi Mandir" in the city. The "Secretariat", the "High Court" and the "Legislative Assembly", are separately the three constructed masterpieces of the town. The city’s centre, Sector 17 is the heart of the activities of the place and for the people.

The area has preserved, ancient and cultural heritage products like Gandhara sculptures, Pahari and Sikh paintings, ancient pottery etc.

As history suggests, the city was a part of Punjab Province, hence its local culture and traditions have skewed and tilted towards the same. The Traditional Dance forms are Bhangra and Giddha. These are known around the globe for energy and high beats. The traditional Music forms are Jugni, Mahia, Tappe, Jindua, Dulla Bhatti, Raja Rasalu, etc.

The cultural and traditional extension is based on the celebrations of the area, hence the popular festivals of the district are Baisakhi, Chandigarh Mango Festival, Chandigarh Plaza Carnival, Chrysanthemums Show/ Festivals of Gardens, Chandigarh carnival in addition to the other Hindu festivals, like Diwali, Holi etc.

Traditional Musical Instruments which help in making rhythms and beats of the important songs are dhol, tumbi, dhadd, Sarangi, Gharha, Gagar, Chimta or Algoze.
