Information About State

The one among the smallest states of northeast lying in the eastern Himalayas is Sikkim, with the capital city of Gangtok. The state is enclosed by vast stretches in the north by Tibetan Plateaus from the west by the Chumbi valley of Tibet and the kingdom of Nepal, the dominion of Bhutan in the east, and the Darjeeling district of West Bengal to its south.

The state is known for its diversity, as well as alpine and subtropical climates and stretches of mountains. Besides, the state holds the second largest peak of India that is Kanchenjunga, also called Godwin Austin after the largest of K2. The peak is the 3rd largest in the world. Nearly 35% of the area of the state is covered by the Khangchendzonga national park. Sikkim has a stunning variety of tribal communities and races of individuals and their respective habitat. All these have different customs, festivals, traditions, dance forms, languages and other different aspects. It is the sole state in India with a Nepalese majority, though Buddhism and Hinduism are the dominant religions.
