ADHD are related to each other in many other ways

Description

ADHD is not on the autism spectrum, but they share some of the common symptoms. And having one of these conditions generally increases the chances of having the other one.

Many medical professionals think have changed the way they think about how autism and ADHD are related. The fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders  said that a person couldn’t have autism and ADHD together . But the newest version of it published in 2013, allows for a person to have a diagnoses with both.

Usually people with adhd have Trouble in paying attention: Kids with autism may struggle with attention problem for several reasons. One is that language difficulties can make it seem like kids aren’t paying attention to instructions given . But sometimes it can be that they just don’t understand the directions.

Having Trouble socially: ADHD can affect peoples social skills . This can include avoiding eye contact while talking and expressing , getting into other people’s personal space.

Sometimes these overlapping symptoms cause a child to be wrongly diagnosed. If you’re concerned about a possible misdiagnosis  talk to your child’s health expert . Doctors are used to handle these kinds of conversations and they even help you get a second opinion.

Many developmental issues are like this they’re somewhere likely to occur together. For example, kids with language issues are more likely to have reading disability.

That’s why you have to consider all the possible aspects of a child’s neuro developmental functioning. This includes language, social skills, attention, physical behavior,  mood, academic skills, social skills, play skills, and motor skills. A neuropsychological evaluation  by a health care provider will look at all of these areas In a persons life.

Autism and ADHD are also related genetically a. A person with ASD has a comparatively bigger chance of having a close relative with ADHD or another developmental disorder. We need a more advance research to better understand the connection, though.

Because kids with autism and ADHD can have a very similar symptoms, some of the ways to help with one can be helpful for  many others. For example, kids with both usually benefit from sticking to a regular routine and knowing what to expect.

But there are big differences in the type of therapy recommended for both the problems . Therapy for autism  like applied behavior analysis can be a great a with communication skills. It can also help to reduce repetitive behaviors, which is one of the signs of autism.

Therapy for ADHD is geared toward improving attention and organization skills of a person. It’s often paired with ADHD medications and therapies . But this medication may not really help kids who don’t have ADHD.

When they occur together

There may be a reason why symptoms of ADHD and ASD can be difficult to distinguish and diagnosis from one another as Both can occur at the same time. For example, some people with ADHD may experience symptoms, such as hyperactivity, intense focus and concentration on one item, that fall after the diagnostic criteria for ADHD.

Not every individual can be clearly diagnosed  A doctor may decide only one of the disorders is responsible for your child’s symptoms. In some cases, children may suffer from both conditions.

In other words, children with ADHD and ASD symptoms are more likely to have learning difficulties and impaired social skills than children who only had one of the underlined conditions

When both occur together

There may be a certain reason why symptoms of ADHD and ASD can be difficult to distinguish from one another. Both of this can occur at the same time. For example, some people with ADHD may experience symptoms, such as anxiety intense focus and concentration on one item, that fall outside the diagnostic criteria for ADHD.

Not every child can be correctly diagnosed. A health expert may decide only one of the disorders is responsible for your child’s symptoms. In many cases children may have both conditions.

Basically children with ADHD and ASD symptoms were more likely to have learning difficulties and impaired social skills than a child who only had one of the conditions.

But Both conditions may be linked to genetics. One study identified a rare gene that can be linked to both of the conditions. Learning more about each disease is a good first step toward understanding the complicated ways they’re related to each other.
