Introduction:

These two maths worksheets completely cover the basic concepts of counting by 20 from 20 to 180. In this worksheet there is a grid that is provided, that contains some empty squares. Some of these squares have numbers in them. The empty squares are to be filled, adding 20 to the previous number. The final number in the grid contains the number 980, of course this too, is a multiple of 20.

Instructions to solve the worksheet

For one to fill the entire grid means to 'understand' and realise that there are some squares that are empty and need to be filled. The squares that are filled could be a guide that will help you to fill the remaining boxes that are still empty and are a mystery for the young student who is still a child to understand and fill out.

In this maths worksheet, upon doing the above, one will realise that slowly the grid is getting filled. The student of class 2, is still new to the concept of addition and the knowledge of a 20 times multiplication table, and/or access to a basic calculator if he is allowed to use one, could be useful.

The purpose of this exercise is to convey in short, i.e. by use of the ‘unwritten rule, wherein one is expected to add 20 to every number that is entered into an empty blank that is required to be filled. One number, after another number, suddenly the young child who is a student, will find that the grid is slowly being completed. The basic maths challenge here is to arrive slowly from the basic number 20 that the young child who is a student started with, and finally arrive at an answer that is expected to be filled into the grid provided, i.e. the number 980.

It is a learning exercise which is mainly developed for young kids who are in primary school.

It is also designed with the idea of helping the young student to grasp the basic concept of numbers and develop what is known as a basic 'number sense'.

Now having a number sense, shows that you have the plain and simple understanding and relatability of numbers. A basic 'number sense' helps one to recognise what to do next when one is expected to add 20 to the existing number on the exact coordinate one might be at on the grid, ie if one is at line 1, and column 3, the number to be entered is simple to figure out, all one has to do without stressing too much is to add the number 20 to the previous number. You don't need to have any knowledge of a 20 times table, though being aware of it can help to attempt the question with greater speed.

Conclusion

Though it may seem relatively simple, this exercise will indeed help the student who is new to the world of maths and the use of tactics and number strategies to understand the use of multiples of 20 to advance through the given grid, that is the basic objective of this maths worksheet

It is by now very clear that both worksheets are intended for teaching simple maths concepts in an easy to learn fashion.

It includes colourful text as well, so as to attract the young student, help him focus and keep him engaged in his self teaching and learning process too.

If that wasn't enough, these basic maths skills like 'comparison', of two numbers, the use of multiples of 20 and how to apply the same concept when it comes to arriving at a particular number i.e. 980 in this case by using the multiples of 20. Of course the development of 'basic number sense' helps so much in real life too.

This is also notably an exercise the student can do at home for self improvement!
