EVS worksheet : Plant Worksheet for class 1 students
Introduction:
Plants are the most essential living organisms on earth. They are immensely beneficial and essential to both animals and human beings. They produce oxygen which is crucial for the survival of any living organisms. Trees provide shelter to animals and are also known for their medicinal benefits to mankind . Overall, different parts of plants have different roles to perform. They act as a source of food and oxygen and maintain ecological balance.
Parts of plant
A plant has different parts and there Different parts perform different functionalities. The part of the plant that appears above the ground level is called the shoot system while the part of the plant which lies beneath the soil is called the root system.
Stems
Stems are the support systems for the plants. Their main function is to act as delivery agents for the nutrients and water stored in the roots and transferring them to the other plant parts in the form of glucose and sugar . Stems also transfer the food from the leaves to the other parts of the plant.
ROOTS
The root system of a plant pulls nutrients and water from the soil and carries it to the stem for distribution throughout the plant's body .
BRANCHES
These terms refer to the units that grow off from the stem . The purpose of a branch is to support the leaves so that it can receive sunlight.
LEAVES
Leaves take the energy from the sun and convert it into food for the tree. You could call the leaves as the food factories of a plant. They contain chlorophyll, which gives the leaves the colour green. It is very important for photosynthesis as the leaves use the sun's energy to convert carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and water from the soil into sugar and oxygen.
Flowers
Flowers are known as the reproductive organ of plants. They are mostly responsible for producing fruits. The process is like this- the ovules present in the flowers get fertilised and produce fruit. They also contain pollen which helps in the pollination of the flower. After the combined process of fertilisation and pollination, the ovules get transformed into a fruit.
FRUITS
Fruits are the storehouse of minerals and fibres. They are the main source of a balanced diet. Fruits are rich in vitamins and minerals which are essential for a healthy human body to function properly.
Seeds
Seeds are the main agents for reproduction. They can be found most commonly in fruits from where they germinate and develop into new plants.
Instructions to solve the worksheet
Given below is a picture for your child to identify and study the different parts of a plant so help them to learn by picking up the exact word to label the given plant parts and fill each of the boxes using the words given in the suggestion box.
Importance of Environmental Education
- EVS helps children to develop their own insights into the functioning of several things or understanding human processes in their environment. Such interactions with their surrounding environment are immensely important for the healthy development of children.
- Not only does environmental education offer opportunities for experiential learning outside of the classroom, it enables students to make connections and apply their learning in the real world.
- EVS helps learners see the interconnectedness of social, ecological, economic, cultural, and political issues.
- By providing environmental education to students they will engage problem-solving techniques of the outer world to their subjects to understand a particular problem by implying outdoor environmental solutions.
- Environmental Education gives students a new meaning of exploring mother nature to see and resolve the issues which are harmful to the environment and this will also help them in maintaining their own health by doing physical work so that their bodies will be immune from some serious health issues such as short-sightedness, obesity and in some cases even lack concentration.
- The one major issue which we need to deal with is pollution and if we don’t educate our kids about the hazardous effects of environmental damage there will be no future in the world.
