Korean Cultural Centre India has announced a new King Sejong Institute(KSI) will be opened at Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS) in Chennai.
The King Sejong Institute Foundation under the Korean ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has selected 25 new King Sejong Institutes around the world this year. Alexander Jesudasan, the Vice Chancellor of HITS who was specially invited as a representative of the world at the Declaration Ceremony of the New King Sejong Institute on June 9, said, "I am very happy that King Sejong Institute will be launched at the Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science in Chennai, where the largest number of Koreans reside. I would like to express my gratitude to the Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science and Korean Cultural Centre India for their sincere supports and endeavors for the establishment of the new King Sejong Institute, and the King Sejong Institute HITS will do its best to spread Korean language and Korean culture, as the center of the Korean Wave in South India.
In addition, the Korean Cultural Centre India said that On June 28, the recruitment of 70 new students for the "Beginner Korean Language Course," which was conducted through online applications using Google Form, was completed within an hour of the applications being open. The Opening Ceremony will be held on August 2. This is an example of the growing demand for Korean language Education along with the enthusiasm for Korean language education in Chennai, South India.
Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS) is one of the universities affiliated with the Hindustan Group of Institutions and is especially famous for its IT department. Since 2014, HITS has signed agreements with universities in Korea and has been conducting various exchange programs with students from universities in Korea visiting HITS.
Hindustan Group of Institutions will also open and operate Korean language courses at its two universities(Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science and KCG College of Technology) and three Hindustan International Schools will operate Korean language classes as curriculum based for sixth graders from July, 2021.
Hwang Il-Yong, the director of Korean Cultural Centre India, said, "I would like to express my gratitude for the deep interest in Korea despite the prolonged corona 19, and we will also support the King Sejong Institute-HITS Chennai, which will be operated as the center in South India for the promotion of Korean Language and Culture."
A total of six King Sejong institutes will be operated in India adding this new institute, including Korean Cultural Centre India King Sejong Institute, and three(King Sejong Institute Patna, King Sejong Institute Imphal, and King Sejong Institute-HITS Chennai) of them in conjunction with the Korean Cultural Centre India on its operation.
