MRG School organised a live session with Manohar Kashyap, an IIM Bangalore alumnus and a state level cricket player interested immensely in cognitive sciences. The event was hosted on the school’s Facebook page for the students of 1st to 5th standard. The session was extremely enlightening and helped the parents understand that a training in Higher order thinking skills helps kindle the thought process of children and trains them to develop critical thinking abilities. Manohar has a background in Education Research, Software implementing in large scale projects, Product development.
Mr. Manohar Kashyap, said, “More than 90% of school-going children in India learn and solve problems mainly by “Rote Memorization”. This method fails when subject areas become more complex or when students are asked to solve NEW problems”.
To this, Ms. Priyanka Barara, Principal, MRG School, added, “ In a rapidly advancing world, where 7 out of 10 school-going children would be working on jobs that don’t even exist today, this generation of students would need higher order thinking skills to be lifelong learners and problem solvers.”
MRG School strongly advocates the presence of Higher Order Thinking Skills Program that empowers every child to become a smart learner and an adept problem-solver. It is vital that the 21st century learner understands the crux & the bigger picture. They must be equipped with the ability to read between the lines and to make their own inferences .
