Naya Raipur, 28 January: IIIT Naya Raipur hosted the fourth edition of its school student-centric annual event SCIηTFIC-2021: Science & Technology over Fiction, in virtual/Online mode, on January 28, 2021. The event was inaugurated with a Lamp lighting ceremony at the hands of Dr. P.K.Sinha within the institute campus. Students from numerous schools across the country participated in the event.
"SCIηTFIC" is a science & technology showcase and exhibition designed for school students. It aims to motivate the students to learn about the latest technological advancements and innovations happening in and around the world. SCInTFIC works towards projecting a positive image of technology in their minds by empowering them to develop strategic cases to solve real-world problems.
After three successful years of SCIηTFIC, the fourth edition was followed in a virtual mode in light of the current pandemic scenario. Like previous year, this year also IIIT Naya Raipur had received overwhelming response to the event from all across the nation. This year, there are a total of eight themes namely- Zero Waste Living, Disaster Management, Post-Covid Challenges, Women and Child Safety, Smart Education, Smart Phones and Smart Living, Healthcare and Sanitation, and Agricultural and Rural Development.
Dr. P.K. Sinha in his inaugural address threw light on how IIIT NR emphasizes on sharing the technological expertise and know-how of the institute through its students and faculty members for the betterment of the society. He also welcomed the eminent guest speakers of the occasion and wished the participants to have an enriching day.
The event comprised of a series of informative sessions wherein various tech clubs gave presentations on various advanced fields of Artificial Intelligence, IoT/Drones, Cyber security and Coding. These workshops aimed to inspire and inculcate curiosity among school children about Science and Technology and make them more informed.
The guest speaker at the occasion was Mr. Ranjit Shrivastava, who is known for making World's first Hindi speaking and India's first realistic lip-syncing humanoid robot which can speak four languages – English, Hindi, Bhojpuri, and Marathi. In his address he explained about connecting the human psychology to algorithms and how he aims to make more advanced versions of humanoid robot in the upcoming years. He guided the students to exhibit perseverance in pursuing their dreams as that is the key to achieving our goals since everything works out with constant dedication.
Ideathon 3.0 also returned this year with over 100 submissions from schools across India. After rigorous deliberation, 66 ideas were shortlisted and invited to compete in the final round. We saw submissions from schools in Raipur, Lucknow, Haryana, Ahmedabad and Delhi, illustrating the national appeal of the contest. The winner teams in the senior and junior category in two sections namely idea based and prototype are:
Sr. Category: Track 3:: 1st Prize: Pratishtha Sharma (Prototype), 2nd Prize: Kanika Chowdhary (Idea Based)
Track 4:: 1st Prize: Freya Khanna (Idea Based) 2nd : Arul Gupta (Idea Based)
Jr. Category:
Track 1:: 1st Prize: Shreeyash Chaurasia (Idea Based) 2nd Prize: Shristhi Dalai (Prototype)
Track 2:: 1st Prize: Vanshika Diganiya (Prototype) 2nd Prize: Lakhsya Garg (Idea Based)
Among the above winners, best idea and best prototype were also awarded. Best idea was awarded to Lakshya Garg and Best Prototype was awarded to Pratishtha Sharma.
The entire event was successfully coordinated by Dr. Anurag Singh and Dr. Abhishek Sharma of IIIT Naya Raipur with the support of Dean Academics, Dr. Rajarshi Mahapatra and entire faculty and staff members.
