According to India Skills Report 2021, there's a significant difference between the percentage of employable talent among the people holding B.Tech and B.Sc degrees.

Rakesh Panigrahy, a native of Berhampur (Odisha) graduated from Model College, Dombivli in Maharashtra with a B.Sc in Information Technology. Following his schooling at a rural school in Odisha, he moved to Mumbai to find his career path in 2015. However, due to his father's deteriorating health, he had to work in a garment factory, a telecom company, and finally a marketing company before enrolling in college for the bachelor's degree to find a suitable job for himself.

Upon graduating, Rakesh recognized that the skills he had acquired at college were inadequate to help him find a job, so he began learning independently. Despite having a B.Sc degree,he was facing difficulty competing with B.Tech graduates from NITs and IITs around India. To fill the skill-gap in his degree, Rakesh became a self-taught Python, Django, Java, PHP programmer. 

However, despite having the knowledge and skills to go for a job, Rakesh said, it felt like his resume was being sent to trash. "I was tired of applying on LinkedIn and other job portals. I was being rejected every time.", he said. 

In his search for a career in Data Science, Rakesh had discovered Board Infinity multiple times on Facebook. Rakesh now works at Ascent Wellness and Pharma Solutions Pvt. Ltd at a package of Rs 6 LPA. Before his placements, he had worked hard to land a good job. He was trained through mock interviews before he was placed to help build confidence. He was highly commended by his hiring managers for the way he answered all the analytical questions. 

As for his job, Rakesh says he is now feeling settled for the first time in his professional life. After joining Ascent, he feels as if he has the pathway to success. Currently, Rakesh is heading the analytics part of his department and is happy to work. 

He says shouldering so many responsibilities at work is helping him build leadership quality, taking ownership, and  developing analytical skills to help his organization achieve bigger goals. 

Rakesh added, "My career path has always been a fluctuating one. It was never a straight line. But now, I can finally say that I settled for the first time." 

Someday, Rakesh wants to build his own start-up, however big or small.
