English and Foreign Languages University, (EFLU) - Shillong is one of the campuses of English and Foreign Languages University located at Hyderabad. Its main campus is in Hyderabad and two other campuses at Lucknow and at Malapuram. It is dedicated to the study of English and foreign languages. EFLU, Shillong Campus was established in the year 1973 as the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) North-East Campus, only one year after Meghalaya achieved statehood. The aim of establishing this campus was to cater to the linguistic and research needs of the region as well as to provide quality training for teachers. It was renamed as English and Foreign Languages University in 2007.  A well stocked library with online journal access, a well equipped lab for language learning and a multi media laboratory for communication provide ample opportunity for self study and practice based learning. The University also organise a series of lectures to enable students to interact with prominent personalities from all walks of life.

Location of EFLU, Shillong

EFLU Shillong Campus is located inside the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Permanent Campus in Umshing-Mawkynroh, Mawlai.

Transportation

Shillong is accessible by road from Guwahati. From National Highway-40, you have to turn left at the junction at Mawlai Point and take the NEHU approach road till you reach NEHU Gate. From there you have to drive for an additional 3 kilometres past the NEHU Arts Auditorium, the NEHU New Guest House, SAI Complex and IGNOU Regional Office till you reach EFLU.

Facilities at EFLU, Shillong

Hostels – The University has limited hostel facilities for boys and girls. Preference is given to students who are from outside of Shillong.

Library – The library has a wide a range of books and journals. It also subscribes to various E-journals.

Fellowships – EFLU, Shillong offers some fellowships.

Some of these are:

• UGC Junior Research Fellowships – It is given to those candidates who have qualified at the national level test conducted by the UGC. Under it, Rs.16000/- per month and a contingency grant of Rs. 10,000/- is provided per year. HRA as per University rules, if living outside the campus
• Senior Research Fellowships – It is given to those candidates who have been awarded UGC Junior research fellowship for two years may be considered for the award of UGC Senior Research fellowships after a review. Under it Rs. 18000/- per month and a Contingency Grant of Rs. 20,500/- per year is provided
• UGC Non-NET Fellowships - All research participants who are not in receipt of any other fellowship/scholarship will be given fellowships as follows: Ph.D Rs. 5000/-month for 3 years, extendable by one year. Contingency Grant Rs. 8000/- per annum
• Rajiv Gandhi National Junior Research Fellowship – It is meant for SC/ST candidates granted by the UGC
• UGC JRF for Foreign Nationals – It is granted by the UGC and limited in number Post Graduate Students
• Indira Single Girl Child Scholarship for PG Students – It is awarded by the UGC on application and subject to satisfactory attendance and progress in studies. Under it Rs. 2000/- per month for 20 months are provided 

Language Laboratory – The laboratory has about 30 multimedia computers installed with the latest software for English and foreign language learning and practice.

Multimedia Laboratory – The library has multi-camera studio facility complete with a studio floor, production control room, three cameras, online audio and video mixing and recording facility with one video tape recorder.

Other facilities include:

• Chroma-keying facility
• Four single camera production units (HD and Mini DV) with microphones, camera support systems and other accessories
• Portable lighting kits
• Two non-linear edit suites with colour correction, CD/DVD writing facilities
• Digital audio software for radio production which includes a recording floor with various kinds of professional microphones and equipments for production and post-production
• Desktop Publishing Software for Layout and Design Classes
• Ten Personal Computers with internet facility 

Friday Lecture Series – Under the series academicians, scholars, activists and people from all walks of life are invited to speak and interact with the students in their field of expertise.

Games - Students are given facilities for outdoor games like - basketball, badminton and so on. There are also indoor facilities for table tennis in the respective hostels.

Society for Film Appreciation - Under this initiative, the students are shown regional, English and other foreign language movies at least once in a month. Directors of film and documentary from India and abroad are also invited to interact with the students.
