What are zodiac signs? According to astronomy, the term ‘zodiac’ refers to the belt-shaped area of the sky, extending about 8 degrees on either side of the ecliptic (a great circle on the celestial sphere that is the apparent path of the sun during a year.) The positions of the moon and the principal planets are also within this belt. In astrology, the zodiac signs refer to one of the twelve constellations (an area on the celestial sphere, where a group of visible stars appears to form a certain pattern representing an animal, object, or a mythological subject.) of the zodiac through which the sun passes. A person’s particular zodiac sign can be determined by the position of the sun in that particular constellation when they were born. The names of the signs are Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius. Zodiac signs and Personality. In astrology, there is a belief that a person’s personality can be determined using these zodiac signs as each of them is said to be divided into 12 months and grouped into four different elements- fire, earth, air, and water. Each sign has its own distinct features or traits and the person born into that sign represents those characteristics to a certain extent.  The fire signs include Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius and the people with these signs tend to be more passionate, confident, bold, and volatile.  The earth signs include Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. These signs are said to be more grounded in reality, loyal, and can also be stubborn. The air signs include Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, and the person with these signs is said to be intelligent, rational, free spirited with great social skills. The water signs include Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, and the person with these are said to be loyal, sensitive, and with great insight.
