UPSC SO/ Stenographer Eligibility Criteria

They are not allowed to be informed to confirm the UPSC SO / Steno 2024 Eligibility Criteria before applying for testing. As given below are the all-important eligibility:

Category 1-Grade of the Central Secretariat Service: Applicants must have 5- years of work experience and have at least four performance appraisals at the Central Secretariat Service Personal Assistants ’Grade of Central Secretariat Stenographers Service.

Category 2-Grade (Integrated Grade Second and Third) of the General Cadre of the Indian Foreign Service, Branch ‘B’: Aspirants must have 5- years work experience of Grade 4th general cadre or Grade second of Cypher sub-cadre, branch B of IFS, or all the mention criteria.

Category 3-Grade of the Railway Board Secretariat Service: Applicants with 5- years of work experience in the assistant grade of Railways Board Secretariat Service or Grade second or Grade C of Railways Board Secretariat.

Category 4-Private Secretary, Central Secretariat Stenographers Service: Aspirants must have a maximum of 3- years of work experience in Central Secretariat Grade Stenographer Service. To apply for this category, students should possess a bachelor’s degree.

Category 5-Grade first of the Stenographers Cadre of the Indian Foreign Service, Branch B: Aspirants must have 5 years of continuous work practice and experience in Grade second of Steno Cadre of IFS, branch B is applicable.

Category 6-Grade A and B merged of the Armed Forces Headquarters Stenographers Service: Applicants must have 3 years per day work experience in Armed Forces Headquarters Service in Grade second / Grade C

Category 7-Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers Service Grade B: Aspirants must have 3 years of per day and approved work experience in Grade second/Grade C of Railway Board Steno jobs

Category 8-Grade of the Intelligence Bureau- In case, students are selected through LDCE, the exam must not be held 5 years before the crucial date.

Category 9-Private Secretary, State Insurance Corporation- Aspirants must have 3 years of approved and per day work practice in Personal Assistant Grade in employees State Insurance Corporation.

UPSC SO/ Stenographer Application Process

The Authority will notify regarding the UPSC SO/Steno exam 2024 through the official website. After 7 years in 2024, the exam procedure was executed once more. See details about the SO / Steno registration form:

  • Students must apply for the exam only online mode.
  • You must remember that after the last day of completion of the form link will be disabled.
  • Processing will not provide any facility to correct the application form.
  • Candidates must submit the online application form to the Head of Department / Head of Office at the Commission.
  • You must take the printout to submit a completed application form before the last date.
  • Only those who will enter the printed copy of the online application will be referred by the Head of Department / Office who will be considered for admission to the Test.

The UPSC SO / Steno admit Card is issued on the official website. UPSC publishes an e-entry ticket once the application process (including submission of a printed copy of the application form) has been completed. To download an admit card, aspirants need their registered email address. The admission is issued 3 weeks before the start of the trial. They are not permitted to be consulted on the official website for any updates related to the UPSC SO / Steno admit card. Aspirants need to carry their admit cards to the testing center and identity documents.

  • On the objective type paper, there will be four options provided for each question.
  • For every incorrect answer given to the aspirants, there will be a deduction of 0.33 marks as a penalty for that question.
  • Aspirants get the option to write a subjective paper either in Hindi or English.
  • All three test booklets will contain questions provided in Hindi and English.
  • There will also be a shorthand test in English / Hindi for applicants.
  • This test will be a test of the speed of 100 words per minute for 10 minutes and then the participants will get 40 and 55 minutes respectively in English and Hindi writing.
  • There will be a maximum deduction of 5% for illegible handwriting marks.
