HPPSC HCS stands for Haryana Public Service Commission it is a combined competitive exam conducted in the state of Haryana to recruit aspirants for various posts in the state offices. The full form of the HPPSC HCS examination is the Haryana Public Service Commission Haryana Civil Service exam. Haryana Public Service Commission is the conducting body for taking the Haryana Civil Service (HCS) exam. The exams are conducted to recruit candidates for various state government services. According to the official announcement made by the Haryana Government, the HPPSC HCS exam pattern has been updated last year. The HPPSC HCS Prelims 2023 was conducted on September 12, 2023, and the result has been released on September 24, 2023. The candidates who have completed prelims and qualified for Mains must check the previous year’s question papers.
The HPPSC released a notification for 2023 on February 26, 2023, regarding 156 vacancies. The Prelims exam shall be conducted on September 12, 2023.

As per the new rules stated by the Harayana government, the HPPSC HCS Prelims CSAT paper (Paper 2) has been made qualifying in nature and thus the score obtained in it will not be considered for the prelims result. The candidates have to get a minimum of 33% marks to clear the CSAT paper.

HPPSC Exam Pattern
HCS Prelims Exam Pattern
The first exam, the HCS Prelims exam is an objective-type question paper, and candidates appearing for the prelims have to appear for two papers. The first paper is on General Studies while the second is the CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test). Both papers hold a weightage of 100 marks and 100 objective-type questions are asked.
The maximum time allotted for each paper is two hours. For each incorrect answer, one-fourth mark will be deducted. From this year onwards, the HPPSC HCS prelims exam will have two papers, but the HPPSC HCS result will be prepared based on the marks obtained in General Studies Paper 1 only. However, the candidates must qualify for CSAT paper 2 to be eligible for Mains.
HCS Mains Exam Pattern
Based on HCS Prelims results, the passing candidates will have to appear for the HCS Mains exam. This exam includes 5 compulsory conventional essay-type question papers; the name of each paper, total marks, and time allotted to each paper are mentioned below.

HCS Personality Test
This is the last stage based on which candidates will be selected for the several posts. HCS personality test holds a weightage of 75 marks. Each year, shortlisted candidates have to appear for the HCS interviews at the commission's premises located in Panchkula.
The final merit list of the shortlisted candidates for the HCS exam is prepared based on the total marks of 675. The candidates need to get a good score in the HCS main written and interview as marks obtained in HCS prelims will not be considered while preparing the final merit list.
HPPSC Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for the HCS exam are based on three parameters including age limit, educational qualification, and physical standards.
Educational Qualifications Required for HCS
- A candidate applying for this exam must have completed his/her graduation in any discipline from a recognized university.
- Also, the candidates in the final year of their graduation degree course are eligible to apply for the exam but the date of the final year mark sheet or score sheet must be before the closing date of HCS.
- The degree certificate/ mark sheet should be provided to the candidates before the HCS closing date.
- After the announcement of the exam, candidates get 30 days to complete the HCS application.
HPPSC Age Limit
The following are the age brackets that the candidates appearing for HCS must fall into to be eligible for the exam.
- Minimum Age- 21 Years
- Maximum Age - 42 years
Age for the post of DSP
The candidates appearing for the posts of HPPSC DSP must follow these age criteria.
- Minimum Age- 21 years
- Maximum Age- 27 years
The higher age limit for the individuals belonging to an unreserved category is 42 years (excluding DSP posts). While the minimum age required to appear for the exam is 21 years. The age of the candidate will be counted from January 1, 2023, of the exam year. There is some relaxation in the upper age limit for the candidates belonging to reserved categories:

Physical Standards for D.S.P post
To apply for the post of Haryana D.S.P, the candidates must meet the following physical eligibility standards.

Important: Male candidates are supposed to have a Chest with Expansion not lower than 34.5” (87.63 cm) while this requirement does not exist for the female candidates.
HPPSC Admit Card
HCS admit card for Prelims has been released on August 31, 2023. Candidates appearing in these exams can easily download the HPPSC Prelims admit card by visiting the official website. All the candidates who have registered for the exam successfully can easily download the admit card. Post qualifying the HPPSC Prelims Exam, admit cards for HCS Mains will be released by the authorities.
- Visit the official website to download the admit card.
- On the site, candidates need to enter their application number or registration number and date of birth.
- After that tap on the icon showing download Admit Card.
- On the screen, candidates can easily see the admit card icon, they need to cross-check the details before downloading the admit card.

Questions in English are designed to test a candidate's abilities to understand and write good English. English papers include précis writing expansion, tests in vocabulary, and any other form of composition that may be suitable.

Composition (idioms, corrections, etc.) - General Knowledge Syllabus
This paper is designed to judge the candidate's knowledge and awareness related to current events. This section includes papers of historical, geographical, and economic importance, with special reference to Haryana.
- Viva-Voce:
The Viva-voce section is included to test the personal qualities of the test-takers. This test is included to test the candidates’ awareness, intelligence, and general outlook. Importance will also be paid towards the physical appearance of the candidate. Vice Voce will be taken in Hindi or in English based upon the option selected by the candidates.

HPPSC Results
The results of the qualifying candidates get released by the Haryana Public Service Commission after the completion of all three stages including Prelims, Main, and Interview.
Haryana authorities officially announce the results of the exam after every stage including prelims, mains, and personality tests. The shortlisted candidates get selected for the next level examination. The issue date of the HPPSC HCS Prelims result will be announced once all the exams get over. The results will be made available on the official website of HPPSC and the candidates who appeared in these exams can check out the results adhering to the following steps –

- After that, a pdf will appear in front of the screen. The candidates can search for the roll number to get the result.
HCS Application Process
Once the notification on the HCS application process is made live on the official website of the exam conducting body, candidates have to register and apply for the same. The form should be correctly filled up and submitted as there is no scope for changes after the final submission. On successful payment completion, the application will be considered legitimate and complete.
Applicants can adhere to the following procedure to apply for the HPPSC exam:
- Test-takers, first have to visit the official website to begin filling the application form.
- On the main page look for the HPPSC Application form link and tap on the same.
- Post clicking on the same, an application window gets open.
- After that, candidates need to register by using a valid Email ID and password.
- Make sure that you don’t make any errors while filling the application form.
- Candidates have to upload all the needed documents along with submitting scanned photographs and signatures.
- Pay the application fee. Candidates can use their debit card, credit card, or net banking to pay the application fees.
- Submit the application successfully. Candidates can pen down the Reference number and save it for future use.
