About Indian Institute of Information Technology - IIIT Guwahati

Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati (IIITG) is an institute of higher education focused on information technology. IITG is North East’s first Indian Institute of Information Technology. It is one of the 20 IIITs being set up by the Central Govt. in NPPP (not-for-profit public private partnership) mode. The partners in setting up the IIIT include the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of the respective State and the industry.

Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati started operations in August 2013. IIITG is operating from temporary premises in the Assam Textile Institute Campus at the heart of the city as of 2015. The permanent campus is coming up in 70 acres of land about 4 km from the Guwahati airport. There are two 8 Mbps Internet links. A 100 Mbps NKN link is under implementation.

Facilities at IIITG

Hostels - The student hostel is situated in the Shine Heaven Colony, a flat complex taken on rent by Institute. The students are accommodated in 3BHK apartments, with each room shared amongst two students. Each apartment has a common living room, kitchen and two balconies. The spacious accommodations are provided with 24-hour power backup supply, lift-service and high-speed internet connection. The institute also provides a laptop to each student, to help them complete their academic work or to use them to their own leisure.

Clubs – The University has various clubs, these are - The Programmers Club, Robotics Club and Cultural Club. These clubs lead to creativity and diversification of ideas, at the same time providing support to organize events.

Sports and Recreation - The students at IIITG indulge in a number of sporting activities like basketball, football, badminton, etc.
