Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is pioneer in the field of social work. Established in 1936, as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work to provide quality education in the field of social work. It is the first school of social work in India with the objective of social welfare through academic excellence. It aims at continuous study of Indian social issues and problems and imparts education in social work to meet the emerging need for trained human power. It was recognized as a Deemed University by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India. It has been collaborated with Universities of USA, Europe and some other countries as well. Since its inception, it has been expanding continuously in terms of educational programmes and infrastructure. It offers value based professional education for social work and other human service professions. Course patterns changes in order to responding to the changing needs of the social and educational system in the country.
