About Indian Maritime University - Mumbai Campus
Indian Maritime University, Mumbai (IMMU) is one of the Campuses of the IM University, the others being - IMU Chennai, IMU Kolkatta, IMU Kochi, IMU Visakhapatnam and IMU Kandla. IMU Mumbai has its Head Office at Nerul, Navi Mumbai. IMMU didnโt exist prior to 2008, there were 6 renowned legacy teaching-cum-research institutes under the Ministry of Shipping, and these were subsumed under the Indian Maritime University in November 2008. Out of these, 3 institutes were located in Mumbai - the Training Ship Chanakya, the Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Advanced Maritime Studies and Research, and the Marine Engineering Research Institute became the Mumbai campus of the Indian Maritime University. ย
IMU Mumbai Constituent Institutes
1. T.S. Chanakya โ Training Ship Chanakya (T.S. Chanakya)ย is a shore based Academy. T S Chanakya is the successor of T.S Rajendra and the grand old lady of Indian Shipping, T S Dufferin, where the training of Merchant Navy Officers in India started in the year 1927.
2. LBS CAMSAR โ Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) College of Advanced Maritime Studies and Research (CAMSAR) is the only institute in India offering Extra Masters and Extra First Class Engineer courses, the highest programmes in the field of Nautical Science and Marine Engineering respectively.
3. MERI, Mumbai - Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI), Mumbai is the only institution in India offering B.Sc. (Maritime Science) programme, giving dual certification of Nautical and Engineering stream for employment on board the Merchant Navy ships. MERI also offers a one year PG Diploma in Marine Engineering (PGDME) programme to help graduates in Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture become Marine Engineers.
LBS College is the post-sea training institute whereas T.S. Chanakya and MERI, Mumbai are pre-sea training institutes. These are premier Maritime Training Institutes not only in India but in the whole of South East Asia.
Facilities at IMMU
Hostels - IMU Campuses at all major Centres are equipped with good Hostel facilities. Students will find the rooms well equipped with all necessary amenities. There are separate Hostels for Boys and Girls.
Mess - Mess facilities serves the hostel inmates.
Co-curricular Activities โ Facilities for various co-curricular activities and sports are provided. Most campuses are equipped with gym and a swimming pool and other outdoor equipment.
