UPPSC stands for Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, it came into existence on 1 April 1937, with the main aim of recruiting candidates to various services from Group 'A' and Group 'B' civil servants for the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh according to the merits of the applicants and the rules of reservation. The exam is conducted annually by UPPSC to recruit officers into the different wings of the state administration departments under the State Government of Uttar Pradesh.

The age limit for the exam is a minimum of 21 Years a maximum of 40 Years as of 1st Jan 2026 & this age limit is applicable for both Upper Subordinate Services/ Combined State Examination 2026 but it also gives โAge Relaxationโ Criteria.

Exam Pattern of UPPSC PCS & ACF/ RFO. The UPPSC PCS Exam has 3 stages according to the notification are mentioned below.

Prelims Exam Pattern
This exam pattern is used as a filtering agent to find the most eligible candidates/ aspirants. Prelims comprise two papers i.e., Paper I & Paper II, with MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) both the papers are of 200 marks.

Marking Scheme for UPPSC Prelims Exam
- The Paper I will be an evaluation for the Paper II and the cut-off of the exam and in Paper II candidates/ aspirants need to score 33% marks.
- In addition, 0.33% negative marking will be given for every incorrect answer,
- Inside the โOMR sheetโ filling multiple circles on for the same question would be treated as an incorrect/ wrong answer and it would lead to a negative mark/ minus mark, too there is no negative marking for blank/ leaving questions
UPPSC Mains Exam Pattern
Further aspirants/ candidates who qualified for the PCS & ACF/ RFO prelims exam are called for the mains exam and the marks of the mains exam will be considered for the final selection of the candidates/ aspirants/ test-takers. It comprises 8 papers that are descriptive in nature. It is merit deciding round, it holds as it is of 1500 marks a great weightage. Yet two major changes in the UPPSC main exam pattern are as follows.
- At first, UPPSC did away with the objective type papers and re-introduced the descriptive type papers as in the past but with the increase in the number of papers.
- At present UPPSC introduced the โEthicsโ paper which was not a part of the previous exam pattern.
Interview for UPPSC
Ultimately this is the last round of the UPPSC Exam, test takers/ candidates who qualify for the Mains exam will be called for the Personal Interview, which will be of 100 Marks. A Board appointed by the UPPSC conducted the interview for test-takers/ candidates.
- In this, the objective of the interview is to check the personal suitability of the candidate for the career in the state services by unbiased observers & a board of competent.
- Next in the personality test apart from their academic study, candidates/ test takers must be aware of the affairs happening in & around the state/ country
- At last, the interview is more of a purposeful conversation intended to explore the analytical ability & mental qualities of the candidate/ test-takers.
In the final analysis, the โUPPSC PCSโ 2026 Result of the preliminary exam will be published after a few days of examination, after qualifying in the preliminary exam, an individual will be able to appear in the main exam at last.

UPPSC Syllabus Mains Paper II
Main Paper-II will be of 3 sections in the question paper of Candidates/ Aspirants will have to select โEssayโ, one topic from each section, and they are required to write an essay in 700 words on each topic/ subject. Totally three sections, topics of the essay will be based on the following:
- Section A: Literature and Culture, Political sphere, & Social sphere
- Section B: Science, Environment and Technology, Economic Sphere, Trade, Industry & Agriculture,
- III. Section C: Natural Calamities, Landslide, Earthquake, National Development programs and projects, National & International Events, Deluge, Drought, etc
UPPSC Application Process
At Present, UPPSC PCS and ACF/ RFO 2026 Online Application Form Link & UP PCS Application Form 2026 โUttar Pradesh Public Service Commission'' (UPPSC) had released the notification for online Application Form 2026 for 200 vacancies in Provincial Civil services (PCS).
- The Application Form 2026 was released at the official website http://uppsc.up.nic.in/ and at the homepage of the website, aspirants/ candidates click on โApply Online Linkโ.
- Fill up the personal details, educational qualification, contact details, UP PCS exam center, upload scanned photo & signature in prescribed size & format, etc in the application form.
- Subsequently filling all details candidates/ test-takers need to pay the application fee through Debit card/Credit card/Net banking & they can take a printout of the application form and for future reference, they save the registration number & the password carefully.
- Finally, applicants who successfully filled the application form can download the UP PCS admit card 2026 for the mains exam from September 25 tentatively. On the other hand, Candidates/ test takers must also check the UPPCS Question Paper 2026 for preparation for the UPPSC exams.
