TNTET 2026 is a state-level exam conducted to appoint skilled teachers for the Primary and Upper Primary levels in the state of Tamil Nadu. The exam consists of 2 papers viz. Paper-I (for classes I โ V) and Paper-II (for classes VI-VIII).
As per the recent announcement made by Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishak, the TNTET certificate will be valid for a lifetime.

Eligibility Criteria 2026
As per the eligibility standards defined by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB), given below is a brief for the same:
TNTET Eligibility Criteria Age Limit
The age of the applicant should not be less than 18 years and should not exceed 40 years. There will be age relaxation as per the Govt. rules and regulations as well.
TNTET Education Qualification for Paper-I:
- B.Ed in Nursery Teacher Training of 2 years BTC in Urdu and BTC/ Diploma in Teacher Education / Diploma in Elementary Education from a Recognized Teacher Training Institute / DIET, if you want to apply for Secondary Grade Teacher for classes I to V.
- andidates who are appearing for D.E.Ed/B.Ed degree are also eligible to apply.
- Candidates who are visually impaired are not eligible to write Paper I.
TNTET Education Qualification for For Paper 2
- B.A. /B.Sc. / B.Lit. degree with Tamil, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, History, and Geography as major subjects from a recognized university under 10+2+3 pattern and B.Ed from a recognized university if you are applying for the graduate teacher.
- Candidates with B.Lit. (Tamil) the degree should possess either B.Ed. or D.T.Ed. or TPT.
Exam Application
Candidates meeting the eligibility criteria have to apply for TNTET 2026 at trb.tn.nic.in. The registration can be done in online mode only. Given below are the steps to apply for the exam:
- Step 1: Visit the official portal of TNTET.
- Step 2: Select which paper you want to apply for (Paper-I/ Paper-II/ Both).
- Step 3: Enter the required details (Personal, Academic, and other details).
- Step 4: Scan and Upload the required documents. Specifications for the same are tabulated below:

The Board will issue the hall tickets for TNTET 2026. The document will be available via online mode only. Steps to download TNTET 2026 Admit Card are given below:

Exam Centre

Selection Process
TNTET is conducted to determine the eligibility of the candidates who aspire to become teachers in government schools in the state of Tamil Nadu. The exam is held in two parts, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper-I is for the candidates who appear for the primary level and paper 2 is for those who appear for the upper primary level. Both the papers have the following features:
- Papers are being conducted in offline mode.
- candidates have to mark their answer on the OMR sheet with a black or blue ball-point pen
- Questions will come in objective or MCQ format; candidates have to choose one answer from four alternatives given
- The total duration of each paper is 3 hours
- The number of questions in both the papers is 150; candidates have to answer all the questions
- Each question carries 1 mark; no negative marking will be there for wrong answers.
Results:
TNTET 2026 Result for Paper-I and Paper-I will be published at trb.tn.nic.in. Candidates who secure 60% or more in the TET Paper-I or Paper-II examination will be considered to have passed TNTET 2026.
