Eligibility Criteria 2026

Age Limit (as on January 1, 2026)

• The age of the candidate must be between 18 to 30 years for Grade-C and between 18 to 27 years for Grade-D .
• Candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC/ PH/ Ex-Servicemen, Central Government Employees, and J&K domiciled category can avail of age relaxation as per the Government of India norms.

Academic Qualification

• Candidates must have passed 10+2 or any equivalent exam from a recognized board or university as of January 1, 2026.

Nationality

A candidate must be either:

• A citizen of India, or
• A subject of Nepal, or
• A subject of Bhutan, or
• A Tibetan refugee who seeks asylum in India before January 1, 1962.
• A person with Indian origins who has transferred from one of the following countries: Myanmar, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, etc

2026 Online Application

• The Online Application Fee for SSC Stenographer 2026 is Rs. 100/- for the GENERAL category of candidates.
• Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD/Ex-servicemen category as well as female candidates are exempted from paying the application fee

Job Profile

• Helping the Public Relation officer with information related to the government stand on various issues.
• Press briefings – Attending press conferences, making notes of the conference details and speech and then helping in making press releases of the same.
• Speech writing – noting down the Speeches of the Senior officials.
• Assisting the Ministers and officers with important governmental proceedings.

Salary

The pay scale of 9300-34800 (for Grade C) and the pay scale of 5200-20200 (for Grade D).

Results

• SSC Stenographer Result will be first declared for the Written Test which comprises the objective test.
• Candidates who clear the written exam will be eligible to appear for the shorthand skill test which will be qualifying in nature.
• The Result for Skill Test will be declared after the same has been conducted by the Staff Selection Commission of India.
