Selection Process

Several different methods are followed by the HPPSC for recruiting the candidates for various posts:

Recruitment through examination and viva-voce:

Through this method, the candidates have to first sit for a written examination. Then, based on those marks, the qualifying candidates are called for the Viva-voce i.e. oral exam. The candidate has to pass this exam also to show sufficient knowledge of their respective subjects. A merit list is prepared based on both the tests, based on which candidates are finalized.

The following are the departmental services for which the candidates are recruited through this mode of viva-voce:

  • Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services etc. Examination (HPAS)
  • Himachal Pradesh Judicial Services (HPJS)
  • State Forest Services (HFS)
  • Forest Rangers

Recruitment through the examination without viva-voce:

Through this method of staffing, the departmental candidates (in-service candidates- who have served for a minimum period of time in some rural areas) are selected for various posts. This is done through written examination, though no viva-voce round is included. A merit list is prepared, based on which candidates are finalized.

The following are the departmental services for which the candidates are recruited through this mode:

  • State Accounts Services (O.B.) – S.A.S.-OB
  • State Accounts Services (L.A.D.) – S.A.S.-L.A.D
  • Recruitment through screening test and interview:

The method of screen test takes place whenever there is a large number of candidates appearing for a certain post. This helps in filtering only the capable candidates. The shortlisted candidates are then called for an interview round and are finalized based on the merit list.

The following are the services for which the candidates are recruited through this mode:

    • Medical Officer (General Wing)
    • Medical Officer (Dental)
    • College Cadre Lecturers
    • Assistant Engineers (Civil/ Electrical/ Mechanical) of different departments/ Board
    • Assistant District Attorney (A.D.A.)
    • District Public Relation Officer/ Assistant Public Relation Officer (D.P.R.O./A.P.R.O.)
    • Any other post(s)

Recruitment through the interview but no screening test conducted:

This method takes place whenever there is a smaller number of candidates appearing for a certain post. The aspiring candidates are directly called for an interview round, and a merit list is prepared on basis of the performance.

The following are the services for which the candidates are recruited through this mode:

    • Assistant Professors of different faculties in Medical / Dental Colleges
    • Director Sainik welfare
    • Deputy Director Sainik Welfare
    • Commandant Home Guard
    • Any other post(s)
