MPSC stands for Maharashtra Public Service Commission, it is a body created by the Constitution of India under article 315 to select Group 'A' and Group 'B' civil servants for the Indian state of Maharashtra according to the merits of the applicants and the rules of reservation. The exam is conducted annually by MPSC to recruit officers into the different wings of the state administration departments under the Maharashtra State Government.
The Government of India also conducts other exams under MPSC called Subordinate Services, Class C Services, Engineering Services, Agriculture Services, Judicial Services, etc.

MPSC Eligibility Criteria
There are various parameters to be eligible for MPSC, in terms of age limit, physical measurements, educational qualification, etc. Following is a detailed description of the necessary parameters. The candidates who are interested in apply for the exam must thoroughly go through the below eligibility criteria and check their eligibility.
To be able to apply for the MPSC exams, the aspirants need to have an Indian Nationality. Given below are the parameters regarding eligibility in terms of nationality.
- For being able to claim the relaxations for age limit, reservation, etc., candidates must have a domicile of Maharashtra that they need to present to the authorities as per the MPSC eligibility criteria.
- It is also important for the candidates to be fluent in the Marathi language in spoken as well as written and pass the required competency exam.

MPSC Exam Maximum Age Limit
The MPSC age limit for the State Service Exam 2026 is:
- Minimum Age (as of April 1, 2026): 19 years
- Maximum Age (as of April 1, 2026): 38 years (General Category)
As per the rules governing the conduct of the examination, there are different relaxations in age criteria as per the category.
MPSC age limits for backward classes, ex-servicemen, qualified players, and persons with disabilities are mentioned below:
- Backward Classes Minimum Age Limit for MPSC โ 19; Maximum โ 43
- Ex-Servicemen Minimum Age Limit for MPSC โ 19; Maximum Age Limit for Ex-Servicemen (General Category) โ 43; Maximum Age Limit for Ex-Servicemen (Backward Classes) โ 48

MPSC Educational Qualification
The educational criteria for MPSC exams are:
- Competency in Marathi
- Bachelorโs Degree from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification.
As the MPSC exams cover a broad range of posts and services, there are post-specific eligibility criteria (educational qualification and/or physical fitness).

Few posts require the aspirants to have subject-specific expertise as mandated by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission.
MPSC Physical Measurements
There is a fitness requirement for a few of the MPSC posts which specifies the physical fitness/measurements in their eligibility requirements. Posts such as Dy Superintendent of Police or related to the Transport department have specific physical eligibility criteria.
The minimum height for the post of DySP is 165 cm for male candidates and 157 cm for female candidates.

MPSC Admit Card
Once the candidates have applied and the application form filling process for MPSC has been completed, the authorities release the admit card on their official website viz. mahampsc.mahaonline.gov.in.
The candidates need to fill in their credentials like username and password in order to download the admit card. The admit cards for the Preliminary exam and the Mains exam will be different.
MPSC Exam Pattern
The exam pattern for MPSC differs for the Preliminary exam and the Mains exam.
Following is the exam pattern and syllabus for MPSC Preliminary exam
The exam is conducted with two subjects which are General Studies and Civil Service Aptitude Test.
The General Studies consists of 100 questions with 200 marks and time allotted as 2 hours
The second subject viz. Civil service Aptitude Test consists of 80 questions with 200 marks and the time for this subject is also 2 hours

- Maharashtra and India โ Polity and Governance โ Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Urban Governance, Public Policy, Rights Issue, etc.
- Economic and Social Development โ Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
- General issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change โ that do not require subject specialization.

There are 6 papers for Mains and the syllabus for these papers includes the following.
- Paper 1
There are two sections in Paper 1, English and Marathi. Both the subjects include topics like essay writing, translation, and precis writing.
- Paper 2
This is based on the grammar portion for the above two languages. Topics like idioms, phrases. Punctuation, synonyms, and antonyms will be asked in this paper.
- Paper 3
This paper includes topics like British rule in India, social and economic awakening, Modern Indian history, National moments in the era of Gandhi, India after independence, Physical Geography, Human and Social Geography of Maharashtra, Remote Sensing, Agroecology
- Paper 4
The Constitution of India, The Political System, District Administration, State Government and Administration (With Special Reference to Maharashtra), Rural and Urban Local Government, Parties and pressure groups, The media, Administrative law, Public service are the topics included in the paper 4.
- Paper 5
Paper 5 has topics like education, health, human resource development in India, rural development, Human rights, child development, women development, youth development, Labour welfare, welfare for aged people, etc
- Paper 6
Indian economy, industry, urban and rural infrastructure development, cooperation, economic reforms, international trade, and capital movements, macroeconomics, public finance, growth, and development of financial institutions are included in Paper 6
MPSC Exams Selection Process
The selection process for the MPSC exam is done through the three stages given below:
- Prelims Exam
- Mains Exam
- Personal Interview
Once the aspirants have cleared the stages mentioned above, they will be called for the process of document verification. After the document verification is completed, the shortlisted candidates will get the posting to one of the Maharashtra governmentโs branches or offices across Maharashtra.
