Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has shifted classes for all its courses to online mode with immediate effect, citing the prevailing situation and the need to ensure the safety and security of students on campus.
The decision, announced in a notice issued by the Office of the Registrar on October 24, will remain in force until further notice. The university said the move was a precautionary measure intended to protect students while ensuring that teaching and learning continue without disrupting their academic interests.
For students, this means attending classes online rather than travelling to campus until the university announces any change in the arrangement.
According to the notice, the decision has been taken to safeguard students in view of the ongoing situation. The university has emphasised that academic activities must continue despite the change in mode of teaching.
All deans, heads of departments, directors, faculty members and students have been directed to follow the online class schedule and ensure regular participation in academic activities.
The order applies to all courses, rather than being limited to a particular department or programme. However, the notice does not specify a date for the resumption of physical classes.
Faculty members have been instructed to make the necessary arrangements to conduct classes through online platforms. They have also been asked to provide students with the academic support and learning materials required to continue their studies.
The university has stressed the need to maintain continuity in the teaching-learning process, ensuring that the precautionary measure does not unnecessarily affect students' academic progress.
Students should therefore follow the online schedule and any instructions issued by their respective departments regarding class links, learning resources and participation.
Jamia has not announced when classroom teaching will restart. The notice states that further instructions and updates regarding the arrangement will be communicated through the university's official channels.
Until then, students and faculty members are expected to comply with the online teaching arrangement.
The order was issued by Registrar Professor Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi. The university has described the shift as a precautionary step focused on student safety while keeping academic activities on track.
