JKPSC Eligibility Criteria
The basic eligibility criteria that are required for the candidates to be eligible for the JKPSC (Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission) exam 2020 has been given below:
- In order to be eligible to apply for the examination, a candidate must be a permanent citizen of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
- Age Criteria: There is a minimum age criterion for the candidates to be eligible to appear for the paper. A candidate must be between 21 to 32 years in order to be eligible for the exam.
- Educational Qualifications: A candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in any stream from any recognized University in order to be eligible for the exam.
- Other Criteria: There are some other criteria for the candidates who apply for the gazette police service. They must possess certain physical criteria to be eligible for the post. Below is given some details regarding that:

JKPSC Application Process
Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) accepts the application from those who are eligible for the exam in an online mode. The applications can be made online through the official website of the Commission. Below is given detailed information regarding the application process:
Steps to apply for JKPSC 2024
- Step 1: First of all, Visit the official website of the commission, i.e., www.jkpsc.nic.in.
- Step 2: After visiting the official website of the commission, find the official link to apply for the examination. Click on the register option and Apply for the exam.
- Step 3: Students can register by clicking the official link available on the website using the mobile number and email- ID. Along with that, fill in all the details required like DOB, Name, Parents’ name, educational qualification, etc.
- Step 4: Students are asked to fill in more details and complete the registration process thereafter.
- Step 5: After filling in all the necessary details, students are asked to upload the necessary documents like Identity proof, mark sheets, caste certificate (if applicable), income certificate (if applicable), etc.
- Step 6: You will be redirected to the payment page. Make the payment of the application fees through a debit/ credit card. You can also make payments using internet banking or e- challan.
- Step 7: After completing all the necessary steps and reviewing the application form, click on the final submission button to finally submit the application process.
- Step 8: Now, take a final printout of your application form and keep it for future reference.
JKPSC Application fees
JKPSC charges application fees from those who apply for the examination. The candidates of specific reserved categories are exempted from paying the fees while there is a provision of discounted fees by some percentage for other category students. The application fee to pay while filling the application form is given below.
- General Category: INR 1000/-
- Reserved Category: INR 500/-
- PWD Category: Exempted from paying application fees
JKPSC Admit Card
The admit card of the JKPSC examination is made available to the students a few weeks before the examination. Below are given some steps to download the admit card:
- Visit the official website of the examination, i.e., www.jkpsc.nic.in.
- Enter your login credentials and log in to the profile.
- Click on the link to download the admit card.
- Input the details as asked.
- Your admit card will be displayed on the screen.
- Download and save the admit card for future reference.
JKPSC Selection Process
The selection process of the JKPSC examination consists of several stages. JKPSC exam is basically conducted in three stages: Preliminary exam and Mains exams followed by a final interview. The preliminary examination is an objective paper while the mains examination is a subjective written exam. The different stages of the examination are described below:
- Preliminary Examination (Objective Type): The first stage of the JKPSC examination is the Preliminary Examination. It is an objective test consisting of two papers. The marks scored in the preliminary exam are not counted in merit.
- Mains Examination (Subjective Type): The second stage of the JKPSC examination is the Mains Examination. It is a subjective test that consists of 9 papers out of which 7 are counted in merit and the rest 2 are qualifying in nature.
- Final Interview: The final stage of the JKPSC recruitment process is the final interview. The candidates who clear the first two stages are called for the final interview. This is conducted to test the communication skills and quick decision-making capability of the candidates.
JKPSC Exam Pattern
Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission conducts various competitive examinations for direct recruitment in Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Services, Police services, and Accounts services.
The exam for the recruitments in various civil services under Jammu and Kashmir public service commission is conducted in different stages. The three basic stages of the examination are Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam, and Final Interview. Candidates must clear all three stages of the JKPSC examination to qualify for the paper. Below is the exam pattern of the JKPSC exam for the year 2020.
JKPSC Stage 1: Prelims exam Objective type
The first stage of clearing the JKPSC exam is the Preliminary Examination. A candidate has to appear for the objective test in order to clear the JKPSC exam.
- The preliminary examination consists of two papers that are objective in nature.
- The questions that come in the preliminary examination are Multiple Choice questions.
- The question paper of the preliminary examination consists of 450 marks in all.
- This test is qualifying in nature. The marks obtained in the Preliminary examination are not counted in merit. It is just a screening test.
- The language of the question paper is English.
- Each paper will be for two hours only.
- There is no provision of negative marking in the Preliminary exam.

JKPSC Stage 2: Mains Exam Written
The second round of the JKPSC recruitment process is the Mains Examination. The applicants who clear the Preliminary Examination are called for the Mains Examination. Prelims Examination is of qualifying nature but marks obtained in Mains Examination are counted for merit.
- The question paper of the Mains Examination consists of Subjective questions which are of descriptive type.
- 2 out of 9 papers are qualifying in nature while the other 7 papers are counted in merit.
- The candidates who clear the mains examination are called for the final interview session.
- The duration of each paper will be for three hours.
- The question papers other than language papers will be set in English.

JKPSC Stage 3 Final Interview
The personal interview test is the final stage of the JKPSC recruitment process. Those who clear both Prelims and Mains examinations are finally called for an interview.
- The interview is conducted to judge the mental caliber and emotional quotient of the candidates. There is a real assessment of not only the intellectual qualities but also the social traits, hobbies, and general interests of the aspirants in current affairs.
- Aspirants are judged on the basis of their mental alertness, clear and logical expositions, depth of interest, the balance of judgment, intellectual and moral integrity, etc. in their interview.
- Those who fail to secure the minimum marks in more than one subject are not eligible to be called for an interview.
JKPSC Exam Syllabus

The syllabus for both prelims and mains exams is released by the board on its official website.
