The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student organisation affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), held a major protest march at Delhi University on Wednesday under the slogan โEnd Anarchy, Save Democracyโ.
Thousands of students participated in the demonstration, with the organisation claiming that students from different parts of the country, besides Delhi, had joined the march.
The protest was primarily directed against the Congress and Left-wing parties, which the ABVP accused of promoting an atmosphere of anarchy and showing a lack of faith in democracy and the Constitution.
Speaking to Aaj Tak, ABVP National General Secretary Dr Virendra Solanki said the demonstration was aimed at what the organisation described as anti-democratic activities by the Congress and Left-wing parties.
Solanki said ABVP had previously organised similar demonstrations at universities across the country. He added that the organisation planned to hold further protests at central and state universities to take its message to students.
The protest comes amid a wider political campaign by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) around the slogan โSave Democracy, End Anarchyโ.
Senior BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Nitin Navin, have participated in demonstrations across different parts of the country, echoing the same message.
Meanwhile, the Congress and Left-wing parties have questioned the BJP over the appointment of Gyanesh Kumar, the electoral process and broader concerns surrounding the state of democracy in the country.
The developments reflect an intensifying political confrontation between the BJP and opposition parties over democracy, constitutional institutions and the electoral process, with student organisations also becoming part of the campaign.
