As the Delhi University Studentsโ Union (DUSU) elections draw closer, the contest is beginning to take shape, with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and National Studentsโ Union of India (NSUI) announcing their four-member panels for the 2026-27 polls.
Both student organisations have named candidates for the posts of president, vice president, secretary and joint secretary, setting up a key face-off ahead of voting on September 18.
ABVP announced four candidates for the key posts through a post on X. Yash Dabas has been named the candidate for president, while Ishu Maurya will contest for vice president.
Riya Chhawdi will contest for secretary and Lakshyaraj Singh has been named the candidate for joint secretary.
The announcement puts all four names in the spotlight ahead of the election campaign, with the candidates expected to reach out to students across Delhi Universityโs colleges.
Yash Dabas - President
Yash Dabas, originally from Kanjhawala in Delhi, completed his graduation from Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, University of Delhi. An international-level tennis player, Dabas has participated in ITF competitions in Spain, Australia and Serbia.
He has also been selected for CBSE Nationals, SGFI Nationals, Khelo India and the All India University Games 2023. He represented the University of Delhi at the North India University Games. He is currently pursuing studies in the Department of Buddhist Studies at Delhi University.
Ishu Maurya - Vice-President
Ishu Maurya hails from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, and completed his graduation from Satyawati College, University of Delhi. He has been associated with ABVP since 2021.
During his student years, Maurya was involved in leadership, debates and public communication. He has served as President of the Satyawati College (Morning) unit and as Co-Convener of Students for Seva. He is currently pursuing law at Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi.
Riya Chhawadi - Secretary
Riya Chhawadi is from Modband village in Badarpur, Delhi, and comes from a farming family. She studied at Sri Aurobindo College, University of Delhi, and is an inter-college-level basketball player.
Chhawadi is currently pursuing the fourth year of the B.A. Programme at Sri Aurobindo College.
Lakshya Raj Singh - Joint Secretary
Lakshya Raj Singh, originally from Churu district in Rajasthan, completed his graduation in Political Science from Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, University of Delhi.
An international-level handball player, Singh has represented India at the Asian Games and World Championship. He has also represented Rajasthan at the National Games and the University of Delhi at the National University Games.
He is currently pursuing law at Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.
The ABVP panel combines candidates with backgrounds in student politics, sports and public leadership as the organisation gears up for the DUSU polls.
NSUI has also announced its panel, setting up a direct contest between the two major student organisations.

Vijay Shankar Meena will contest for president, Veer Chhatrath for vice president, Namrata Chaudhary for secretary and Gopal Chaudhary for joint secretary.
NSUI said its campaign would put โstudent interests paramountโ, with a focus on building a โprosperous, safe, and better Delhi Universityโ.
Vijay Shankar Meena - President
Vijay Shankar Meena, who is originally from Rajasthan, is the NSUI candidate for the post of DUSU president. He completed his graduation from Rajasthan University and is currently pursuing a first-year MA in Buddhist Studies at the University of Delhi.
According to NSUI, Meena has been associated with issues concerning student rights, social justice and democratic representation. His campaign is expected to focus on student welfare and representation.
Vir Chatrath - Vice President
Vir Chatrath, a Delhi resident, is contesting for the post of DUSU vice president. He has completed his graduation and is currently pursuing a first-year MA in Buddhist Studies at Delhi University.
NSUI describes Chatrath as being involved in student and campus-related issues, with a focus on democratic engagement and student rights.
Namrata Choudhary - Secretary
Namrata Choudhary is the NSUI candidate for secretary. A Delhi resident, she completed her graduation from SPM College, University of Delhi, and is pursuing a second-year M.A. in Buddhist Studies at the university.
Her candidature is being positioned by NSUI around student welfare, equal opportunities and womenโs safety on campus. The party has also highlighted her candidature as representing greater participation of women in student leadership.
Gopal Choudhary - Joint Secretary
Gopal Choudhary, originally from Rajasthan, is contesting for the post of joint secretary. He graduated from Satyawati College, University of Delhi, and is currently pursuing a first-year MA in Buddhist Studies.
NSUI says Choudhary has worked on student-related issues and is focused on grassroots engagement and strengthening student representation before the university administration.
The announcement comes after the universityโs preliminary scrutiny of nomination papers. A total of 25 candidates have been provisionally cleared for president, 20 for vice president, 24 for secretary and 19 for joint secretary.

The DUSU elections will be held on September 18. Students in day classes will vote from 8:30 am to 1 pm, while evening-class students will vote from 3 pm to 7:30 pm.
Vote counting will take place on September 19.
With ABVP and NSUIโs panel now announced, attention will turn to the candidatesโ campus profiles, student issues and the campaign ahead of polling day.
