CBSE Revamps Evaluation Pattern: Shift towards Competency-Based Questions:- CBSE Alters Assessment Pattern for Classes XI and XII Starting 2024-25 Academic Year Emphasis on Competency-Based Questions In a recent circular dated April 3, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced significant modifications to the assessment and evaluation system for classes XI and XII. Effective from the academic year 2024-25, there will be a notable shift towards competency-focused questions in theory examinations.
One of the key changes involves reducing the weightage of constructed response questions, including short answer questions and long answers, from 40% to 30% in theory examinations. This adjustment aims to align the evaluation process more closely with competency-based learning objectives.
Key Points:
The alterations primarily emphasize competency-focused questions, encompassing formats such as Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), case-based questions, source-based integrated questions, and similar formats. These questions, aimed at assessing the application of concepts in real-life scenarios, will now constitute 50% of the total weightage, marking an increase from the previous 40%.
Moreover, selective-type questions, notably MCQs, will maintain their 20% weightage. However, there will be a decrease in the weightage of constructed response questions, previously occupying 40% of the total marks. Under the new structure, they will contribute only 30% to the overall assessment.
๏ปฟQuestion paper composition for board theory exams in classes IX and X will stay the same, according to a recent circular. The CBSE is committed to competency-based assessments in schools. They're focusing on developing resources for teachers and students to align competencies. The goal is to shift from memorization to fostering creative, critical, and systems thinking skills in students, preparing them for 21st-century challenges.
