Program Overview
B.Voc Animation and VFX or Game Design at Kalinga University is a three-year undergraduate degree programme designed to develop creative, technical and practical skills for careers in animation, visual effects and game design.
The programme combines design concepts, digital tools, technical knowledge and practical project experience, enabling students to explore different areas of digital media and visual communication. Semester 1 establishes the foundation in communication, information technology, graphic design, illustration and photo-editing, along with practical industry exposure.

Semester 2 develops skills in multimedia, web technology, design, innovation, sketching and human anatomy.
- Multimedia & Web Technology: Database fundamentals, networking, Internet technologies, PHP, web development, multimedia formats and multimedia authoring tools.
- Environmental Studies: Ecosystems, natural resources, biodiversity, pollution, sustainability, environmental policies and disaster management.
- Design & Innovation: Design concepts, design principles, elements of design, colour theory, drawing techniques, composition, perspective and occupational safety.

Semester 3 introduces students to web applications, digital compositing, pre-production and 3D texturing.
- Web Applications: Movie editing tools, multimedia integration, JavaScript, advanced web design, dynamic templates, SEO, forms and website publishing.
- Digital Compositing: Compositing principles, transparency, rotoscoping, wire removal, chroma keying, layer-based compositing and animated layers.
- Pre-Production: Research, brainstorming, story concepts, character development, shot analysis, storyboarding, animatics, pre-visualization, scheduling and budgeting.
- 3D Texturing: Materials, surface properties, UV unwrapping, texture mapping, bump and displacement maps, advanced texturing and photorealistic environments.

Semester 4 focuses on audio and video production, animation principles and 3D modelling.
- Audio Editing: Digital audio formats, audio editing, recording, mixing, effects, synchronization, multichannel audio and mastering.
- Video Editing: Non-linear editing, Adobe Premiere, importing and arranging media, timelines, transitions, effects, keyframes, trimming and titling.
- Principles & Techniques of Animation: Drawing for animation, gesture and motion studies, body language, animation principles, timing, squash and stretch, anticipation, staging, walk cycles and character acting.
- Basics of 3D Modelling: 3DS Max interface, viewports, primitives, spline and polygon modelling, modifiers, hierarchy and organic/inorganic 3D modelling.

Semester 5 advances students into texturing, lighting, character rigging, 3D animation and 3D motion graphics & VFX.
- Texture and Lighting: Diffuse, opacity and reflection, UV unwrapping, texture maps, bump and displacement mapping, video post and lighting.
- Rigging: Character rigging, constraints, hierarchy, controls, muscle systems, automated rigging, scripting, vertex weighting and natural character articulation.
- 3D Animation: Character animation, body mechanics, poses, balance, weight, facial expressions, lip-sync, body language and animation for 2D, 3D, stop-motion and hybrid formats.
- Introduction to 3D Motion Graphics & VFX: Broadcast animation, compositing, special effects, 3D elements, particles, keying, colour correction, rotoscoping, rig removal and morphing.

Semester 6 focuses on rendering, advanced character systems and professional skills, helping students prepare for professional opportunities in the creative industry.
- Introduction to Rendering: Rendering concepts, formats, resolutions, rendering software, layer-based rendering and compositing rendered passes for final output.
- Muscle System: Bone and joint systems, IK handles, skinning, IK/FK, stretchy rigs and deformers used in character rigging.
