The words were written by Amitabh Bachchan in June 2020, following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Amitabh Bachchan is one of the most prominent actors in Indian cinema, with a career spanning more than five decades. The Government of India honoured him with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2018, which was presented by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan in December 2019. The award is the highest honour in Indian cinema and recognises outstanding contribution to its growth and development.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has also described Bachchan's contribution to Indian cinema as spanning more than five decades. He has worked across acting, television and other forms of entertainment, becoming one of the most recognisable figures in Hindi cinema.
Bachchan wrote these words after Sushant Singh Rajput died by suicide in Mumbai in June 2020. His post focused extensively on Rajputโs talent and intellect.
Bachchan also reflected on Rajputโs rise from relatively modest beginnings to becoming a leading actor. He suggested that excessive intensity could sometimes move a person towards an extreme, before writing that the reasons behind suicide remained an โeternal mysteryโ to him.
