In 2008, IIT Council had launched many IITs at different locations, amongst which is Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar. It is the first to become operational among eight new IITs and it is amongst the fastest developing institutes. It is being mentored by IIT Kharagpur. It is a center of excellence to provide science and engineering education. The institute has hired faculties who are renowned in their respective fields.
