The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) was set up in 1963 by the Government of India as an autonomous organization. It a UGC recognized, Deemed University. It is situated at Qutab institutional area surrounded by Jawaharlal Nehru University, IIT Delhi and Qutab Minar.
The college has its campuses in Delhi and Kolkata.

He was topper of Utkal University and JNU where he post-graduated in Political Studies. Later in 1983, he completed his Ph.D. in Political Economy from the University of Cambridge. He was a Fellow of Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford (1998-99) and taught International Trade in the University of Oxford. He also taught in Delhi University, North Eastern Hill University and JNU between 1974 to 1977.

IIFT has a vast campus of 6 acres overlooking the magnificient Qutab Minar along with all the facilities which include:
- 1. Administrative Building and Lecture Halls: The college has centrally air-conditioned lecture halls with modern audio-visual aids and conference halls for round-table conferences
- 2. Auditorium: An auditorium of 500 seating capacity is present in the college campus and a MDP Centre.
- 3. Computing facilities: Three Computer Centres with a Local Area Network comprising dedicated servers & storage for private cloud, 300 Pentium Core 2 Duo / i7 nodes with wired & wireless access to the network available in the campus. The software applications include Windows 2008, SPSS, Oracle, Visual Basic and Java.
- 4. Sports Facilities: Facility for Indoor games is there within the college
- 5. Hostel Facilties: IIFT offers excellent residential facilities for students. It has a separate wing for girls and boys.

The institute has a Corporate Relations Committee(CRC).The Corporate Relations Committee is an elected body of four members. The CRC is headed by a convener. The purpose of the CRC is to maintain constant interaction with corporate partners and associates of IIFT and to arrange interactions with corporates on a regular basis.
