Windies Star Chris Gayle To Retire from ODIs After 2019 Cricket World Cup
Chris Gayle has issued a 'come and get me' plea to the ECB and their brand-new competition. The 'Universe Boss' is on a farewell tour of the Caribbean aiming to put England's bowlers across the last five games he'll play in the region, and who would bet against him.
Gayle could be 39 and in the twilight of an outstanding career across all formats, however, he could hit a long ball and ruin a bowling attack from the top of the sequence, and that's the reason he could still be a drawcard for the ECB's most recent venture in 2020. "Well, if I do not begin it, it won't be a tournament," said Gayle, who's already quit Test cricket but maybe not T20s. "I guess England ought to invite me. Then the championship burst and say 'thank you men; bring into a kid.'
Gayle holds the West Indian record for most ODI countless with 23 and is now their second-leading run-scorer from the 50-over format with 9,727 runs -- trailing only Brian Lara (10,405). His 215 from Zimbabwe from the 2015 World Cup also signifies the greatest score that is limited-overs.
Gayle had equaled Pakistan star Shahid Afridi's record of the greatest number of sixes in a career in all three international formats combined last year. Both batsmen have 476 sixes contrary to their name well Brendon McCullum at 398 sixes, before the greatest. However, achieved the feat in 443 matches while Afridi reached the mark at 524 matches.
Afridi hit 73 sixes in T20Is 351 sixes in ODIs and 52 in Tests. Gayle has smashed 103 sixes in T20Is 275 sixes in ODIs and 98 maximums in this game's longest format. "We welcome the return of Chris Gayle who missed the last two series and Ashley Nurse from injury. We are pleased to introduce Nicholas Pooran into the ODI cricket for the first time," Windies chairman of selectors Courtney Browne had said.
