The National Testing Agency (NTA) has started the online registration process for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) December 2026 examination.
According to the public notice issued on October 8, candidates can submit their application forms through the official website, ugcnet.nta.nic.in. The examination will be conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode for 87 subjects from December 14 to 19.
The examination determines eligibility for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointment as Assistant Professor, appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to PhD programmes, or admission to PhD programmes alone.
Candidates should keep track of the registration deadline, fee payment window and correction period to avoid missing any important step.

All deadlines for application submission and fee payment close at 11.50 pm on the respective dates.
The application fee varies according to the candidate's category.
General/Unreserved: Rs 1,150
General-EWS/OBC-NCL: Rs 600
SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender: Rs 325
Candidates can pay through credit card, debit card, net banking or UPI.

The NTA has advised candidates to use their own or their parents' or guardians' accessible email address and mobile number for registration, as official communications will be sent through these channels.
Candidates should also check their particulars carefully before final submission, as changes will not be allowed afterwards. The NTA said the examination city and admit card dates would be announced later.
