According to UNICEF, about 25% of children in India have no access to formal education. Without education and specific industry focussed skills, the chance of finding employment is difficult, resulting in problems related to the basic sustenance of an individual, and dependent family members.
With lack of livelihood and basic facilities & amenities, food, water, shelter most of such youth end up indulging in undesirable activities. Migrant labors and workers are a common sight in urban cities, who left their native places in search of employment as there is lack of such opportunities around them. Many organizations in India are working on these root causes addressing the issue of education, skill development, and employment opportunities by providing training to the underserved individuals and helping them secure a living out of it.
Here are some of the prominent organizations that are the changemakers working towards the betterment of the nation and the lives of people
PanIIT Alumni Reach for India Foundation - The Nation Building arm of Pan IIT India Alumni, is effectively reaching out to backward and tribal areas of India where there is a lack of facilities of education and employment opportunities. The Foundation is working towards providing a self-sustainable, job assured, loan funded, vocational skilling model enhancing the incomes and livelihood of the underprivileged. Technical skills are taught in job roles such as nursing, construction service (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades), manufacturing (welding, fitting, assembly), logistics, textiles, etc. This demand led technical training is imparted using the latest technology to make them financially secure and independent. Their short-term skill training models have helped these people to get 100% assured placement in reputed blue-collar jobs. Over 18,000 youths have been trained and more than 1 lakh lives have impacted so far.
Lakshyam - From educating street children to providing livelihoods, Lakshyam a non profit organization has been working towards providing technical education, Skill development lessons for children residing in slums and backward areas. To empower women in marginalized communities, Lakshyam is helping them with professional and vocational training which makes them secure with employment opportunities. With their constant effort, they have been working in more than 15 states making an impact on the lives of the underserved and underprivileged. They are doing skill development programs such as handicraft product making and stitching to empower women capable of making financial decisions.
The Nudge Foundation - Working toward alleviating poverty by training youth and gig workers The Nudge Foundation is constantly. Their skill development and entrepreneurship programmes focus on youth employability through new-age skill training with placement opportunities that have impacted over 10,000 low-income youth across states. They have also started an incubator that has an institution-based approach to nurture top talents to solve critical challenges, till now over 75 non-profit startups with 120 entrepreneurs.
Anudip Foundation - Anudip Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides skill training to people from marginalized communities to help them find jobs and enhance their livelihoods. Founded in 2007 by the husband-wife duo Radha Ramaswami Basu and Dipak Basu, Anudip has worked with and benefitted over 65,000 people till date. The foundation has over 150 training centers in rural, peri-urban and urban areas in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, and Delhi/NCR. At these centers, beneficiaries are trained in Information Technology (IT), spoken English and English comprehension, workplace readiness, digital and financial literacy, retail, hospitality, programming languages, etc. It has impacted over 65,000 underprivileged people so far.
