National Law School of India University, (NLSIU) Bangalore is the first Indian Law University established by a statute passed by Karnataka Legislature in 1986. It became functional in 1988. It is the only Law School sponsored by the Bar Council of India with a view to raising the standard of legal education in India. Leading lawyers, judges and academicians have been associating with the Law School from the very beginning and in this way, the NLSIU represents the unique partnership among the Bar, the Bench and the Academia.
The National Law School of India University is located in Nagarbhavi, approximately 10 kms from the Bangalore City railway station. The Law School is spread over an 18 acre campus at the entrance to the Jnana Bharati Campus from the Nagarbhavi end.
Some of the achievements of the college are as follows:
- Ranked 2nd in Law Category as per The India Today-AC Nelsen-Org-Marg in 2008
- NLSIU team won the ISRO Sponsored Manfred Lachs India Funding Round, 2009 Space Law Moot Court Competition
- NLSIU Team won Philip C. Jessup Nationals 2007
- NLSIU team came 2nd at ICC International Mediation Competition in Paris 2007
