Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh has begun his second consecutive five-year term, starting October 8, 2026, and continuing until October 2031. His reappointment marks a first for the university under its amended statutes, which allow a vice-chancellor to be reappointed for another term.
Singh took charge as Delhi University's 23rd Vice-Chancellor on October 8, 2021. His reappointment was approved by President Droupadi Murmu in her capacity as the university's Visitor and communicated by the Union Ministry of Education in July this year.
The second term comes after a first tenure marked by changes to undergraduate education, admissions and curriculum, including the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
During Singh's first term, Delhi University expanded admissions through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) and introduced the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) in line with the NEP.
The university also introduced curriculum reforms and established new academic centres, alongside restructuring across colleges and departments.
The Undergraduate Curriculum Framework 2022 brought in multiple entry and exit options, multidisciplinary learning and the Academic Bank of Credits. These changes were designed to give students greater flexibility in choosing subjects and planning their degree pathways.
With Singh now continuing until 2031, these reforms form an important part of the university's ongoing academic direction.
Delhi University's statutes were amended in 2023 to make the vice-chancellor eligible for reappointment for another five-year term. Before the change, an incumbent seeking another term had to apply afresh alongside other candidates.
Singh is the first vice-chancellor to begin a second consecutive five-year term under the amended provision.
Before taking charge at Delhi University, Singh served as Vice-Chancellor of Delhi Technological University from 2016 to 2021. He also headed the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and served as director of Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology.

Singh's second term will extend the university's current phase of academic and administrative changes. The NEP framework, four-year undergraduate courses and CUET-based admissions have already reshaped key aspects of university life.
His reappointment ensures continuity in leadership as Delhi University continues to implement its academic framework and manage changes across its colleges and departments.
