The CID probing the alleged Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) veterinary officer recruitment exam scam has traced a money trail of around Rs 92 lakh and identified an alleged network through which examination questions were leaked to candidates before the test.
The investigation has so far questioned 40 candidates, while 29 have been named as accused in the FIR. Investigators have allegedly established links between candidates, intermediaries, former KPSC Controller of Examinations IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar and key intermediary Basavaraj Kannale.
According to the CID probe, bank records show multiple deposits ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh between January and February 2026.
Investigators have frozen around Rs 69.2 lakh in two accounts and another Rs 71.18 lakh in accounts linked to Kannale and his wife. The CID has also seized Rs 5.76 lakh in cash from Kannale.
The transactions are being examined as part of the investigation into the alleged question paper leak and the role of intermediaries in connecting candidates with those involved in the suspected network.
The CID has alleged that around 60 to 80 questions from each paper were leaked before the examination.
According to the probe, candidates were taken to three villas at Orchid Nirvana near Devanahalli, where some of them allegedly practised answering the leaked questions.
Investigators are examining how the questions were obtained and circulated among candidates before the examination.
The investigation has also traced WhatsApp communications allegedly linked to the suspected network. The CID is conducting a forensic analysis of mobile phones seized during the probe.
The agency is examining digital communications and other electronic evidence to establish the alleged links between candidates, intermediaries and other persons under investigation.
Gangwar, who was arrested on August 29, is being questioned over his alleged role in the case.
Investigators have examined his communications with Kannale and searched multiple premises as part of the probe. Documents and electronic evidence have also been seized.
The CID is continuing to examine financial transactions, communications, and other evidence to establish the alleged network behind the recruitment exam question paper leak.
Reacting to the Karnataka High Court setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe alleged recruitment irregularities in the KPSC, BJP state president B Y Vijayendra said lakhs of youths had lost faith in the system.
โLakhs of youths have lost faith in the entire system. They have been fighting for the last eight to ten years. But unfortunately, even the Congress government has not taken any initiative. I am glad that the High Court has given a decision for a thorough investigation to give justice to the students, justice to the youth,โ Vijayendra said, as reported by ANI.
