About Manmohan Memorial Polytechnic

Manmohan Memorial Polytechnic (MMP) was established in 2008 AD as a technical college located in Hattimuda, Morang, Koshi, Nepal. It is 12 kilometers away from Biratnagar, an industrial town in eastern Nepal. The Polytechnic was established with the assistance of NRs.46 Crores from the Government of India under India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme with the name of former Prime Minister of Nepal Late Man Mohan Adhikari and is the first of its kind in the country. The college has the status of the constituted college of CTEVT (Council for Technical Education and Vocational Trainings, Nepal) but accredited by the Government of Nepal as an autonomous college. It offers a Diploma in Engineering (IE) course in multiple disciplines. It also provides training to disadvantaged and unemployed groups of people in specific skills through short-term modularized training programs.

This college provides various levels of the program up to now it is providing Diploma in Civil, Electrical, Electronic, and Mechanical. Soon it will also provide a bachelor level program in the civil department.

Manmohan Memorial Polytechnic is the first polytechnic of its kind established with the generous assistance of the Government of India as a result of an agreement among the Government of India, Government of Nepal, and Manmohan Memorial Foundation that aims to cater employable skills to its students which is most essential for employability and further to help develop the nation. It is affiliated with the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) the umbrella organization formulated for the development of TEVT in Nepal.

MMP is an autonomous institute empowered to provide sound technical skills based on practical knowledge to prepare the students to meet the challenges of the fast-changing world. Today's need for our country is to provide with such an education and training to the upcoming generation that could foster creativity in the cross-section of lives. MMP promises for continuous striving to fulfill the need of the society by offering programs that provide life skills to the youths of the nation to become self-dependent.

In Nepal, where most of the population over 15 years of age is the unemployed and there a large number of manpower in search of work is fleeing around the world every year, the conventional system of education cannot develop the desired competencies and capabilities for obvious reasons. Hence there is the need to explore alternative learning strategies for regular Diploma Courses.

A Judicious mix of the approaches (e.g. Institution-based Project oriented study, Laboratory, and Workshop-centered teaching, and Practice School type of instruction) will be employed for the education and training of students in Diploma courses of developing the desired ability of quality technicians most suited for executive, supervising and managing shop floor/field activities in the industry. The instructional approaches outlined above are student-centered. The program of study includes a considerable number of assignments in addition to lectures, laboratory work, and workshop exercises.

MMP is managed by a Board of Governors (BOG) that has a wide range of representation from Nepalese industries and industrial professionals, employing agencies, technical educators, engineering professionals, representatives of MMF, University, CTEVT, Ministry of Education, Engineering Association, and MMP faculty. It is financed by the government of Nepal, MMF, and the Polytechnic itself.

Objectives

The MMP has set the following objectives: 

• To produce a middle-level technical workforce (with technical and supervisory skills) in the engineering field to strengthen various sectors of the economy.
• To undertake continuing education/training program for professional and career development of the technicians/ skilled workers in the industry.
• To train disadvantaged/unemployed/underemployed groups of people in specific skills through short-term modularized training programs.

The main purpose is to provide the students with hands-on skills that enable them to secure wage employment and/or self-employment or raise the competency levels of the students so that they do not have to remain unemployed or underemployed.

Scholarship Schemes:

• Government of Nepal scholarships as per government norms and CTEVT selection criteria (to be provided by GON)
• Scholarships for a minimum of ten percent students as per CTEVT norms and selection criteria (to be provided by MMP)
• Manmohan Scholarship for the needy students as per MMP norms, selection criteria, and available funds

Besides the scholarships, MMP has developed a scheme under which poor, deprived, and needy students with the thrust of education and training can benefit. The students will be provided adequate land where they can work and earn that ultimately helps them to proceed with their studies. This scheme is designed in a way that helps to change the mindset of the youths and they will begin to respect the labor and will earn to learn.

4) What are the educational qualifications required for a student to be enrolled in Diploma in Engineering?

Ans: To be admitted in any of the subjects of Diploma in Engineering to be studied here, one should have obtained a minimum C grade in Science and Mathematics in SEE and a minimum D + grade in English. Those who have to SEE in class 10 should have passed the SLC exam. In the case of technical SLC / TSLC holders, in order to study the subject related to the diploma, compulsory mathematics, science, and English subjects must have been studied and passed with 68.33% marks in the total marks. In the case of SEE in the technical stream, a 1.6 GPA should be obtained in the relevant subject, if you want to be admitted to other programs, you should have obtained the educational qualification as per the admission criteria of other programs.

Ans: Students can fill the admission application form by attending the Polytechnic or by sending the handwritten form through the online form available on this website. The following documents should be attached with the form while filling the form by any means:

• 1 (one) copy of the transcript of passing the SSE / SLC examination.
• 1 (one) copy of character certificate and transfer letter of the concerned school.
