About MJP Rohilkhand University

M.J.P. Rohilkhand University was established in 1975 as an affiliating University. It was carved out of the then Agra University. There was a dire need to establish a separate university since the region has a lower literacy rate than the national average. Its status was upgraded to affiliating-cum-residential university in 1985 when four teaching Departments were established in the campus. In 1987 three more Departments were added. In August 1997, Rohilkhand University was renamed as Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University after the nineteenth century social reformer, pioneer revolutionary from Maharashtra - Mahatma Jotiba Phule. The University has taken an overall perspective of development plan and thereby modified University status by including new Faculties of Engineering and Technology, Management, Applied Sciences, Education and Allied Sciences etc. Presently, there are 21 university departments,17 Government colleges, 29 Government funded affiliated colleges, 108 self- financing colleges. The University runs 36 Post Graduate, 15 under Graduate, 9 Diploma, 20 Post Graduate Diploma, 2 M.Phil and 34 Doctoral Programmes. It has 146 affiliated colleges. The University headquarter is located at Bareilly with its territorial jurisdiction extending over the districts of Bareilly, Moradabad, Rampur, Bijnore, Jyotibaphule Nagar, Baduan, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur Noida and Sitapur. The University campus spreads over 206 acre of Land. The University also has its own water supply system. The Campus possesses administrative building, faculty buildings, multi purpose hall, staff quarter for Vice Chancellor and another officers of the University, faculty members, Non-teaching staff etc.

Facilities

University  Hostel - M. J. P. Rohilkhand University provides accommodation facility for the outstation students. The hostels are equipped with modern facility which include generators, water coolers, common rooms, phone, xerox machine, sports facilities, canteen, mess facility, t.v. facility, vehicle stand. The hostels are at the walking distance from the university. The Main Hostel has the capacity   of 250 students. This hostel is open for all  faculties. The Girls Hostel has the capacity of 300 students. This hostel is for all faculty girls. Other hostels for boys include new boys hostel, BDA hostel and rajkiya hostel.

Central Library - The library has a collection of about 4.5 lakhs, which includes, books, periodicals, serials and non-book material. The Library is located at the heart of University and is accessible easily from all departments on foot. Press Clippings Collection is housed in a separate floor. All staff members of MJPRU and students are its member. Faculty members are entitled for getting 12 book at a time, Undergraduate students 4 books, Post graduate students 6 books and special members and Non teaching staff 2 books. The library provides membership to eminent scholars as special members and visiting scholars as Consulting members for specific period. UGC scholarship holders attached to MJPRU are also its member. The library opens from 9 A.M. to 10 P.M. on all days of the week round the year except for two months, i.e. for one month each during Semester Examination when it opens till 12 o'clock midnight. However, during the vacations the library hours are reduced to 8 P.M

Bank - There is one banks on-campus: The Union Bank of India.the banks provide Centralised Banking Services, Internet Banking and A.T.M. facilities. On enrolment, every student of Rohailkhand University must open an account with either bank. The banks are centrally located. Union Bank of India is near the post office,  The A.T.M. of Union Bank of India is located next to the bank. Union Bank of India operates 1 A.T.M.s on-campus- one near the bank branch Bhawan. Apart from these, many banks have branches and A.T.M. facilities in the town, that is, off-campus.

Research - The senior faculty members of different disciplines in Humanities, Science and Technology are running research projects funded by various agencies and so far 49 projects funded by UGC, AICTE, DST, CST, ICAR, ICHR, MIF have been  completed. Teachers of the Affiliated college are also engaged in research projects funded by above agencies. In this modern era technology leads everything, this was truly recognized by the University and Institute  of Engineering and Technology was established in 1995.

Laboratories - Laboratories in the science departments have very modern and sophisticated equipments and apparatus not only for teaching but required for research purpose. Analogously, each department in the faculty of Engineering has well equipped laboratories for B.Tech and B.Pharma students. The Department of Hotel Management and Catering in the Faculty of Management, a pioneer department in the northern India to start bachelor's course, has well equipped kitchens, food laboratories , dining hall and other facilities to turn out the best in the field.

Extension programmes - Department of Adult, Continuing Education and Extension conducts regular programmes in the villages and blocks. Several short term job oriented programmes have been completed to make the rural folk skilled. Department of Applied & Regional Economics is launching Village Development programmes by establishing a Data Bank programmes to prepare village inventory.

Post Office - The campus has a post office within its premises which is situated near the U.G. club. The post office is well equipped and caters to the needs of the students and the faculty, as well as the non-residents of the campus. The post office works on all weekdays from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M., and on Saturdays from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M

Staff Quarters - The campus also has houses for teaching and non-teaching staff. Teacher are provided type III and type IV houses while non teaching staff is provided type II and type I quarters. Accommodation for Vice Chancellor, Registrar and Finance officer is also available on the campus

Job Placement - The university has the placement bureau for the job placement of passing students and successfully placed various student in the service of our nation in various fields.

Health Care Centre - The University Health care centre was started in the form of a dispensary for students and staff-community. It was turned in to a hospital with various facilities.

Guest House - M.J.P.Rohilkhand University campus has a guest house to accommodate the guests and delegates who visit the campus and provides basic services.

Places of Worship - A Temple dedicated to the God Shiva, near the the girls hostel and a Mosque near University, all dot the campus and add to its charm.

Sports Facilities - These include indoor stadium, open stadium with eight lane track field, cricket ground etc.

Bus Service - Buses and other vehicles are available for students, staff members, school going children and officers of the University.
