About Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation - VMRF

Vinayaka Missions University (VMU), is a higher education institution based in Salem, Tamil Nadu, India and it is the 48th University in country. The deemed university status was conferred by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (India) with the recommendations of UGC (Established Under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956) to Vinayaka Mission's as an acknowledgement of excellence and satisfaction for the highest levels of academic standards and its infrastructure facilities provided to achieve excellence in education. It was renamed as VMU in 2006 as per a new decree issued by the University Grants Commission enabling deemed universities to change their name to 'university'. The University has 27 colleges nationally and 3 International. It additionally has 3 hospitals in India. The foundation also has branched out internationally with universities in Thailand, Canada, and a medical school in Belize. And recently Vinayaka Missions has established its presence in the United States with a medical campus in the state of Maryland  near the city of Hagerstown.

Facilities

Hostels - The multi storied hostel complexes provide accommodation for both men and women students with excellent mess facilities, separately at different campuses of VMU. Strict discipline is maintained to build the character of the students which facilitates conducive atmosphere for self study. Entertainment facilities are available for the hostellers to spend the leisure time. Lush green atmosphere coupled with vast sports grounds surround the hostel complexes.

Super Speciality Hospital - "Vinayaka Mission Hospital" is a Super Speciality Hospital for primary, secondary and tertiary health care. The hospital provides patients with an enhanced treatment using latest technology and advanced equipments. Highly qualified Doctors and well trained paramedical staff are committed to serve with loving care and pleasing service to patients round the clock.

Artificial Limb Centre - Artificial limb centre attached to the Medical College & Hospital,has been rendering services to the Community. Over 750 individuals are benefited by the centre so far and returned to  normal lifestyle. Training and Counselling services with the action plans rendered by Our Specialists to the Leprosy,Polio, Diabetics and physically challenged people, to use their artificial limbs and live a better life.

Few of the Artificial limbs given are:

1. Calipers for polio affected person.
2. Surgical Footwear's for Leprosy and Diabetic Patients.
3. Tailor Brace for Spinal Cord.
4. Deneis Brown Splint/Shoes for leg disorder.
5. Survical Collar for Neck pain.

Directorate of Distance Education - The Directorate of Distance Education has currently 7 Schools of Studies with over 200 programs.

The Schools of Studies are as follows:

• School of Computer Science And Information Technology.
• School of Health Sciences.
• School of Education.

Programs are offered at five levels, namely, Under-Graduate, Post-Graduate, P.G. Diploma, Diploma and Certificate. The University offers job oriented programs & professional programs apart from traditional programs. The self instructional materials are prepared based on the credits given above and 10% of the total study hours is used for counselling & practical sessions. The Vinayaka Missions University has more than 400 study centres to assist the distance learners and for delivering its distance education programs. Students registered with the University will get Self-Instructional Materials (SIM) in printed book form as well as e-learning, video conference, etc. The self instructional materials are planned based on credits for each type of programs. Here one credit is quantified by 30 hours of study, in other words a student has to put in 960 hours of study for completing an 32 credit programs.

The minimum requirements for each program are as follows:

1. UG - Credits required = 96, 3 yrs.
2. PG - Credits required = 64, 2 yrs.
3. PG Diploma - Credits required = 32/64, 1 yr/2 yrs.
4. Diploma - Credits required = 32, 1 yr.
5. Certificate - Credits required = 16, 6 months.

Student Grievance Redressal Cell - All Grievances relating to students of this university is addressed by this cell called Student Grievance Redressal Cell. This cell consists of a committee of five members including the chairman of this cell appointed by the Vice-Chancellor.  All grievances are addressed first to the chairman of this cell through an official representation by the student. All grievances are resolved by placing the issue in the committee and the orders are passed by the chairman of this cell.

International Student Cell - All Grievances relating to students of this university is addressed by this cell called Student Grievance Redressal Cell. Vinayaka Health Club - Vinayaka Mission Hospital in association with General Insurance has formed "Vinayaka Health Club" for all their students, employees & their family members.

CDC - Career Development Cell called "CDC" helps the students during their final term of study to train them in soft skills, Attitude and Personality Development and grooms them to face  interviews. This is done continuously through workshops & seminars by eminent trainers from the industry

NCC - NCC Group HQS, Coimbatore approved to raise as NCC sub unit in this Institution on 30th Sep 2003 with 52 cadets. This company operates under 11(TN) SIG COY NCC. In the very first year we enrolled 52 cadets from the various departments in our institution. The selection was made only on the basis of physical and skill tests conducted by the army personnel. The cadets of our institution have taken part in various activities, Training Camps, National Integration Camps, Trekking and Mountaineering Expeditions, Adventure Training, Youth Exchange Programmes, Sports Training, Cultural Activities and Community Development.

NSS - National Service Scheme is to develop the personality of the students' service at a National Level. The schemes are conducted periodically through regular programs and special camp programs. The University conducts the Rural & Tribal Medical Health Camp, Dental Health Camp, Homoeopathy Medical Camp, Road Laying, Tree Plantation, HIV/AIDS Awareness Camp, etc. The Siddiq Charitable Trust presented "Siddiq Virudu" to the NSS Unit of VMKV Engineering College, Salem for the Year 2004-2005.

Alumni - The University has established an Alumni Association called "Radiance Club" for all the students passing out from this university. Through Radiance Club students will have an exclusive facility to know the latest developments in the university and also the career progress of their friends and fellow mates who had studied with them.

Blood Donors Club - Our Hospitals have tie-ups with various blood donation clubs and blood banks in order to  ensure that the life stream is given to the need in time and lives are saved. Vinayaka Mission Hospitals have conducted various blood donation camps at various centres periodically and entertained awareness camps by eminent doctors through various private voluntary service organisation.

Youth Redcross - YouthRedcross was formed in our University, to inspire and empower Youth through dynamic programs, creative opportunities to serve and specialized leadership training.

As a result, youth and young adults will realize the mission of the  Red Cross by participating in:

1. Service-learning.
2. School-based Programs.
3. Leadership Development.
4. International Initiatives.
5. Youth-driven emergency preparedness programs.
