About National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC)
National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is located in the city of Kozhikode (Calicut) in Kerala. The University is a centrally funded technical University established by an Act of the Indian Parliament (Act 29 of 2007). The University was formally known as Calicut Regional Engineering College (CREC). NIT Calicut is situated at the foothills of Western Ghats, 22kms from north-east of Calicut City. The University is a Technical Institute of national importance set up to develop high quality technical education and personnel with a sound footing on basic engineering principles, managerial and technical skills, innovative research capabilities, and exemplary professional conduct to lead and use technology for the progress of mankind, adapting themselves to changing technological environment with highest ethical values as the inner strength. The University has a vision to have International standing of highest caliber. In 2007 NIT Calicut raised its annual intake for its undergraduate program to 570.

Facilities
The University has been well planned keeping in mind the requirements of the students and latest infrastucture to facilitate teaching:-
Central Library- NITC has a huge collection of valuable books, reports, journals and CD ROM Databases. The annual budget for the purchase of the books for the library is around Rs. 30 lakhs.
Guest House- The University has its own Guest House with AC and Non AC rooms, available for the guests of the institute, including Alumni and Parents of the students. The Guest House also has a full fledge Conference Room.
Health Centre- The University has its own Health Centre having 10 beds. The health centre provides good medical facilities to the residents of the campus. There are two medical officers- a Lady Medical Officer, a Resident Medical Officer- and qualified nursing staff.
Language laboratory- The University pays major emphasis on developing good communication skills among students which is a pre-requisite to become successful professionals. Language has to be practiced, heard and corrected; this is precisely the function of a language laboratory. The lab is a unique synergy of art and technology, taste and craft.
Hostel facilities- NITC has twelve hostels including two PG Hostels and three Ladies Hostels. The boysâ?? hostels are situated close to the academic area, while ladies hostels are within the residential campus. The boys hostel are named by letters A,B, C , D , E , F, G, PG-I, PG-II and three ladies Hostels (LH)- A,B and C. Total number of inmates at NITC Hostels is nearly 2906. The hostels provides the facilities of Mess, Mini Canteen, Gymnasium, Indoor Shuttle Court, Cooperative Store Extension Counter, STD/ISD Connection, etc.
Student Activities- The University is a hub of various Clubs and Activity Centers which allows the students to explore their talent in a wide range of areas of their interest-
Sports Facilities- NITC provides students with various sports facilities like- Gymnasium, Swimming Pool, open Air Theatre, Outdoor sports like Tennis, Football, Rolling Blades, Badminton, Hockey and Basketball. There is an Auditorium and cricket ground as well.
The University sends invitation to corporate firms and R&D organizations along with the job notification form. Corporate firms and R&D organizations may fill up the job notification form and e-mail or post to Professor, Training and Placement. The JNF is made available to the students and the Department of Training and placement propose a date for the PPT and selection process. Organizations/ firms are expected to visit the campus on the date allotted to them and conduct the PPT. Students attend the PPT and resumes are made available to the firms, this provides the students a channel to contact companies and showcase their abilities.
