NIT Srinagar ( National Institute of Technology) ,Srinagar, is one of the leading institutes of engineering and technology in Northern India. It came into being in the year 1960 and is now a Deemed University being granted this status in August, 2003, in terms of the relevant act of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Like all the other National Institutes of Technology, this institute was also initially set up as a Regional Engineering College after the country's independence.The beautiful Dal Lake provides a scenic backdrop to the institute with the Hazratbal shrine adding a touch of religious fervor.
The Institute receives financial assistance from both the Central and the State Governments and is affiliated to the University of Kashmir. The curriculum of the institute is continuously reviewed and updated so as to keep pace with the developments in the field of engineering and technology. The faculty of the institute are also given adequate training to help the students in achieving academic excellence.
