About Indian Institute of Technology Mandi

Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi was started in the year 2008, under the mentorship of IIT Roorkee. It is the youngest IIT which is currently offering 4-year B. Tech programmes in three branches of engineering, namely, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering with 40 students in each branch. These programmes initially followed the curriculum, syllabi, course structure and fee structure of the mentor IIT (Roorkee).  But since July 2010, it has started using the new curriculum which has been designed to train students to become design engineers capable of conceiving, designing and deploying innovative and cost-effective products and processes for widespread use in society. IIT Mandi focuses on laboratory and project work from the first year onwards, to complement theory. Apart from the undergraduate programmes, IIT Mandi will start conducting M. Tech programme from 2011 onwards. The institute will admit research scholars, both MS (by research) and PhD in all disciplines who are also eligible for the Institute scholarship programmes.
 
Currently, IIT Mandi has 5 schools. They are
  • School of Computing and Electrical Engineering
  • School of Engineering
  • School of Process Technologies
  • School of Basic Sciences
  • School of Humanities and Social Sciences
