Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Mandapam was a long time requirement of various central government employees of Mandapam area, that India’s one of the reputed educational institutions to be set up in Mandapam, in the CMFRI campus , when the CMFRI head quarters was functioning in Mandapam . it is worth mentioning of retired director of CMFRI , Dr.James who had an inate desire to establish this pace setter educational institution in this station . after much effort by him
Along with other well wishers of the vidyalaya the board of governors of the KVS approved the proposal to establish a school at mandapam. Accordingly this vidyalaya was established in 1987 , admitting children in classes 1 to 6. for about a decade the vidyalaya was functioning in the CMFRI building. In April 1997, the vidyalaya was shifted to the present building complex exclusively constructed for the school at a cost of Rs.2.7 crores in 15 acres of land. This building is situated near NH 49 . Mandapam is situated 3 kms in the east. Ramnad district head quarter is situated 40 kms in the west . Palk of Bay is situated 1km in the north and Gulf of Mannar is situated about 1 km in the south of this vidyalaya.
