Choose how you want to study
Every programme is delivered in one of three UGC-approved modes — pick the one that fits how you actually learn best, not just what sounds most convenient.
Choose your delivery format
Online
Online learning is a programme delivery mode in which students access their education primarily through internet-based platforms and digital resources rather than attending conventional classes at a physical campus on a regular basis. Depending on the university and programme, students may access lectures, course materials, assignments, discussions, academic announcements and assessments through online systems.
Online university programmes can provide learners with greater location flexibility, allowing them to study from home or another suitable location with the required internet-enabled device. The exact balance of live sessions, recorded content, faculty interaction, practical work and examinations varies by programme.
This mode can suit students who prefer digital learning, learners managing work or personal commitments, and those seeking education without relocating for regular campus attendance. Before choosing an online programme, students should check its schedule, academic support, assessment structure, eligibility and institutional requirements.

Regular
Regular learning is a structured programme delivery mode in which students generally attend scheduled academic sessions in a physical institutional or campus-based environment. It provides opportunities for direct interaction with faculty members, classmates and the wider academic community through face-to-face learning activities.
Depending on the university and programme, Regular programmes may include classroom lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, practical activities, projects, assignments and other scheduled academic engagements. Attendance requirements, class schedules and assessment methods can vary by institution and programme.
This mode can suit students who prefer a traditional classroom environment, regular academic interaction and a structured study routine. It may also be appropriate for learners who value campus facilities, peer engagement and opportunities to participate in academic or co-curricular activities.
Regular should not automatically be treated as Full Time, as Program Mode and study commitment are separate classification concepts. At EasyShiksha, students can explore and compare university programmes based on learning mode and other important programme attributes.
Distance
Distance learning is a programme delivery mode designed for students who study without attending conventional classroom teaching on a regular basis. Learning is generally organised so that students can access academic resources and complete learning activities away from a traditional campus, with the exact support structure depending on the university and programme.
Distance programmes may use study materials, digital resources, academic communication, assignments, tutorials or other learning support mechanisms. Some programmes may also include limited in-person activities, contact sessions or other institutional requirements where applicable.
This mode can suit learners who need greater flexibility because of work, location, family responsibilities or other commitments. It can also be useful for students who prefer independent study while remaining enrolled in a structured university programme.
Distance learning is not automatically the same as Online learning. The delivery methods and academic requirements can differ. At EasyShiksha, students can explore and compare university programmes by learning mode and other important programme attributes.

What learners say about choosing their mode
"Online mode meant I never had to explain a fixed class schedule to my manager — I studied entirely around my job."
"The Hybrid Executive MBA's short campus immersion turned out to be the best part — real networking I couldn't get fully online."
"I preferred ODL's structure — having periodic contact sessions kept me on track in a way fully online might not have."
Online vs. ODL vs. Hybrid — what's the real difference?
Online mode is delivered entirely through a digital learning platform — video lessons, live or recorded classes, digital assignments, and online assessments, with no physical material or in-person requirement at all. ODL (Open & Distance Learning) is the more traditional distance-education format: printed or digital study material paired with periodic contact classes, often at designated study centres, giving learners a bit more structure and scheduled touchpoints.
Where Hybrid fits in
Hybrid programmes combine online coursework with an optional or short required campus immersion — useful for programmes where lab access, networking, or in-person mentorship genuinely adds value, such as our Executive Programs and certain technical specialisations. The academic credit and degree recognition are identical to a fully Online programme; Hybrid simply layers a brief in-person component on top.
Choosing between them
Both Online and ODL modes require UGC-DEB approval to be considered valid distance-mode qualifications, so validity isn't the deciding factor between them — comfort with self-directed digital learning versus scheduled structure usually is. If your field benefits from labs, cohort networking, or in-person mentorship, Hybrid is worth the extra logistics; if maximum flexibility around a job or family commitment matters most, fully Online is typically the better fit.
Frequently asked questions
Is a Hybrid degree less valid than a fully Online one?+
No — the academic credit and degree recognition are identical. Hybrid simply adds an optional or short mandatory in-person component (like a campus immersion) on top of primarily online delivery.
Can I switch modes after enrolling?+
This depends on the specific university's policy — some allow switching between Online and ODL within the same programme, others don't. Check with admissions before applying if this matters to you.
Do Online and ODL both require UGC-DEB approval?+
Yes — both Online and ODL modes require UGC-DEB approval for the specific programme to be considered a valid distance-mode qualification.
Which mode is best for a working professional?+
Online mode is generally the most flexible for working professionals since it has no fixed in-person requirement, though Hybrid programmes with a short, well-planned campus immersion can also work well if scheduled around your job.
