Gwalior, 10 October, 2020: Fake news is one of the biggest challenge, the world is facing today and to fight with it, Amity School of Communication has established a Centre for Detection of Fake News and Disinformation(CDFND) at Amity University Madhya Pradesh. This Centre remains updated regarding technology for Detection of Fake news/videos/audios/pictures on social media/print/ electronic media. It also liaises with agencies like Google News Initiative, Poynter with know-how and methodology for Detection of Fake News.
The Centre majorly focuses on Open Source Fact Verifications, Advanced Verification of Photos and Videos on Social Media Platforms, Digital Security and Safety, User Testing, Media Literacy, Crowd Tangles to name a few. The idea is to have good publications in quality journal apart from detecting fake news.
Lt Gen V.K. Sharma AVSS (Rtd.), Amity University Madhya Pradesh Vice-Chancellor, said, “The problem of Fake News is not going to be solved soon. The main problem is that our Social Media users never cross-check the post. It’s diluting image of India and its people and to fight this, our University has established the Centre and soon we are going to launch a full-time course related to “Detection of Fake News and Disinformation. The determination to fight with Fake News and Cloned Journals would help us attain new dimensions in high-level research”.

Recently, CDFND took a step forward and organized a Webinar titled 'Fake/Cloned/Predatory Journal - A New Threat to Academics where, the Key Trainer Dr Sumit Narula, Head of Amity School of Communication and CDFND gave Hands-On-Training as “How to Detect Fake Journals”. He stated that the moto of CDFND is to keep everyone conscious about the Fake News as well as Cloned Journals around us.
Dr. Narula said, “According to experts every person in this world can be a soldier in this war. For doing so people should be more aware and vigilant about the information floating around them and this gives a new aspect in job profile to the students who can develop themselves as FACT CHECKERS and fly high in this new domain. The CDFND will not only train the faculties and students of AUMP but also various governmental /educational institutes with regards to technology associated with fake news detection.
Dr. Narula also informed that in ASCO, AUMP Graduation and Post-Graduation students are being prepared to Detect Fake News. The students have a special paper in the Syllabus on Fake News and around 15 various tools are being taught to them in the semester which includes Google Reverse Search, Photo Forensic, Time Eye, and Sun Calculator and so on.
The webinar was attended by eminent personalities such as Dr. Aseem Chauhan, Hon'ble Chairman & Chancellor, Amity University, (Dr.) M.P. Kaushik, Pro Vice-Chancellor, AUMP, Prof. (Dr.) Anil Vashisht Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor and Mr. Rajesh Jain, AUMP, Registrar, AUMP who shared their opinions which lead to an engaging and fruitful discussion and perfect closure of the webinar.
This is an attempt to eliminate the spread of Disinformation in any forms like forged photos, videos, articles etc. from society by seeking the fact behind hidden truth, just like the motto of our national emblem, SATYAMEV JAYATE-The Truth Shall Prevail.
