Its ok not to be ok: A little act of kindness goes a long way
Gurugram, October, 2020: On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, Amity University Gurugram organized an event to promote global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. The theme of the event, Its Ok Not To Be Ok: A Little Act Of Kindness Goes A Long Way was an attempt to highlight some of the mental health issues and conditions in the form of role plays, poetry, experience sharing videos for creating awareness. As every individual has suffered their share of lows in this lockdown period, this event was a gentle reminder that it is normal to feel low at times and our near and dear ones do have the ability to make us feel better by their little act of kindness.
Mental health Day was first celebrated in 1992 as an initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries. The year 2020 has been challenging for all adapting to the new normal of life. Thus the goal of 2020 World Mental health day campaign by the WHO is Increased investment in Mental health.
Sharing his thoughts on the event, Prof. (Dr) Padmakali Banerjee, Pro Vice Chancellor of Amity University Haryana, said, “The youth are the champions of change and the change-makers who can make a difference to the life of people around them. Practicing well-being and maintaining satisfying relationship network is key to a happier life”.

From highlighting the stigmas and taboos attached with mental health to sensitizing the masses and throwing light on the struggles that are faced by people through poems and dance, students performed array of activities that commemorated at the event.
Mental health needs more sunlight, more candor, and more candid conversation. In the last few months, it feels like the world had come to a standstill due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The event was a way to make everyone realize that there actually has never been a better time to talk about mental health. Because mental health has never been a universal concern for everybody at the same time.
