Government Autonomous College (GAC) Kalahandi, Orissa  College started as Kalahandi Science College from 18th July 1960 continued as a Pvt. College till 30.11.1961 was taken over by the Government of Orissa  on 1.12.1961. It was then renamed as Govt. Science College, Bhawanipatna. With its vertical academic growth the College was conferred with Autonomous Status in 2002 and now it has added a new feather to its cap – the status of “College with Potential for Excellence”. In 2005 the College was accredited by NAAC with Grade "B++".The College is situated in the KBK (Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput) region, one of the most backward regions of the Country. It caters to the hopes and aspirations of the vast tribal populations of the area as a Temple of learning for Higher Education
